As per usual, Rutgers Athletics is behind the curve. I get the feeling that NIL and transfer portal are treated as headaches, not resources. The days of redshirting and player development and players sticking around for 3/4/5 seasons are over. And players who have demonstrated they can’t help us have to be nudged out the door. The transfer portal is a two-way street.

The transfer portal is meant to fill scholarship openings with experienced players versus high school players. In Rutgers case some players need encouragement to leave and play at a lower level of competition. The replacements must have 3 point shooting ability and lateral quickness to defend without fouling.I want players who talk about playing time and the number of shots they will get because they are telling the coaching staff what results can be expected. The team will not get better with project type recruits playing in a power conference. What is needed are difference makers on both ends of the court.Yes,some of the returning players might be upset but team chemistry works best by winning.

NIL contracts for 99 percent of D1 athletes amounts to pocket change.
They do much better when someone just gives 5 grand for every scholarship player than individual deals.

Pike may also need to change his attitude / opinion towards players in the portal. He has made comments that if a players asks during a phone/ zoom interview whether he’s going to start and / or how many minutes he will be getting - this is an immediate rejection / turn off. I understand Pike is into team chemistry/ mature attitudes etc - but maybe just maybe he needs to tinker a bit with his virtues etc.

What percent of D1 athletes are starting players on major conference men’s basketball teams?

No clue Greenie, lousy at math.
How about I say 99 percent of D1 scholarship athletes starting on major conference basketball teams aren’t making more than pocket money with individual NIL deals
