Do you think if they win 2 or 3 conference games he shouldn’t get pink slipped?
Doesn’t matter what I think or what you think. He turned the program around and he won’t get fired for one bad year… now I do think it’s possible if we are equally as bad next year

It’s hard not to like the man but his overly optimistic preseason comments have rubbed many the wrong way.

He needed to keep JY here and couldn’t

Who is going to come that will be better?

He did prove that winning here is possible, the facilities are nice and the RAC can get rocking. Schiano showed that we will pay....the president may not be everyone's favorite but he supports athletics.... A coach who can recruit and run an offense would be interested im sure.

Next yr we could be one of the worse teams in the country. The guy thinks filling out his roster with low level D1 players is a good idea. He's yrs from being let go. But we are in big trouble

I haven’t been a fan of Pike for a while, but you have to give him one more year.

If things are bad next season then you make a move.

It is multiple mistakes that have led to this happening since the end 2019-20 ended so abruptly to Covid-19, all to sell out to the break the 30 year drought, that should have ended in 2019-20. Pike and the program should have scheduled more in the non conference in 2020-21, which led to little development for Mag/ Reiber/ Palmquist. We saw this team implode at tOSU up 48-32, and try and regain it vs Iowa unsuccessfully. They could never regain the form and chemistry for the rest of the year, lived off wins over Illinois and Purdue while chemistry still existed. You could see the on court divide between Geo/Ron vs JY/MM, Caleb caught in the middle. At that point of the season, they should have found a way to develop any of the 4 Freshman. It seemed that Pike and the coaches never did anything to acknowledge or solve any of it to get into the tournament in 20-21, at the expense of 2021-22, DePayette happened. I think this team, esp Caleb starting fresh, would have been better off letting Ron and Geo, joining Mathis and JY on another team. You can see them hedging the NBA waters for as long as they did before grandstanding their return was a big part of what was and is wrong in the offseason and the chemistry being off with the start of 2021-22.

This can’t be a serious question. He is coming off two NCAA tournament caliber seasons. There are obviously fair criticisms with regard to recruiting. The lack of bringing in a guard transfer who can shoot and offset the losses of JY and MM is another fair criticism, particularly with JM being brought on slowly and currently not a part of the rotation. But with that said, he shouldn’t even be close to the hot seat. I’m seeing way too much nihilism from a segment of the fan base.

It is early in the season, things can get better. I like what I saw from Mag. I hope Jones gets more run and works through his mistakes. He seems to have good upside. Cliff is averaging more pts than I thought he would. I thought Mulcahy played well as PG. There are some positives to build on for the future.

This obviously worst poll question ever. OP sounds like a petulant Veruca Salt. “Yes yes daddy I understand Pike took the program to the ncaas for the first time in 30 years but 6 games later things look bad and it should be changed NOW daddy!”
Can’t be a bad poll when the votes were very close Baghdad Bob

You know better than to say that. The test of a poll is not whether it's close but whether it has a representative sample, and no internet poll does because the voters self-select. It's really scary to think that 45% of Rutgers fans would want to do something as stupid as fire a coach who for two straight years gave Rutgers its greatest success in a *long* time.

Pike isn't going anywhere. He'll definitely have to do some soul searching in terms of the way he recruits and may make some changes on the staff to fix his deficiencies. He changed the culture and I still think he can get us to become a consistent tournament team with things like a new offensive assistant/ace recruiter (which may not exist for a place like RU). Hurley was Hobbs's #1 pick and his recruiting at UConn will most likely end in a Big East Championship. With the facilities, RAC, and NJ connections, we'll always wonder what could have been with Hurley but hopefully, these losses will lead to a lot of self-reflection on the staff and get it fixed for another tournament run next season (hopefully built around Jones and Cliff)

Pike is going to be our Chris Collins. Just like Northwestern, we’re going to accept our role as a bottom of the basement team with the occasional competitive season. Pike sold us a bunch of lies this year and now we have to live with this.

He'll get two more seasons, I think. I am not optimistic that those seasons will be anything other than horrible. He simply is a very poor recruiter.

You're a snowflake and make so many idiotic comments, it's funny to read. Toughen up and have some faith in your team. If you didn't see positives in the 17 point lead yesterday, then you just have an axe to grind. And the same goes for the other gloom and doomers.

I'm not casting a vote because there's no option of wait and see.
But this caught my attention in the Rivals article on recruiting Papa Kante.

Rutgers: "I know Ron Harper, Jr. is there. He is my guy; we talk a lot. Coach (Steve) Pikiell is a funny guy. He calls me sometimes, and we talk, and he is funny to me. Coach (Kenya) Thompson, that's my guy. He texts me all the time."

Interesting approach by the head coach.

Unbelievable! The bottom line is that we lost. What good is a 17 point lead if we cannot hold it.

He shouldn't. You go to the tourney and win one game and you're allowed to drive the program into a ditch for 3 years? Our recruiting is worse than Jordan level right now

Is the team capable of improving or not? It sounds like you've given up on them.
Nothing over the first part of this season points to improvement that could lead to a successful season. There is nothing on the coaching, defense, offense or rebounding that makes me think a miraculous turnaround could happen .

Pike deserves at least two more years. His failing this year (so far) is not effectively replacing the loss of Johnson, Mathis and Young. RU has a serious lack of depth which is being exposed by the injuries to Baker and Harper. Pike either has to bring in more top recruits or take better advantage of the transfer portal.

Ok, we disagree. The way they played to get the 17 point lead and the past history of the returning guys makes me believe in a "turnaround". And if they get it together, it wouldn't be a miracle, just continued development.
