Agree fingers crossed on him being that good.I'm hoping that he plays, he's as good as advertised and the other year of eligibility doesn't matter since he'll be heading to the NFL. Fingers crossed.
This.I was really surprised he played against PSU. To me, it made sense to have UMD and a bowl game in play without having to worry about this.
lol …wrongNot redshirting wimsatt would be professional malpractice at this point. Legit insanity.
Let's see if he burns a year of eligibility before we get too worked up.This.
Outside of the Illinois game it was idiotic to play him.
15 snaps this year and it will cost him a year of eligibility?
You think burning a redshirt is worth playing 20 garbage time snaps and a bowl game no one cares about? If the plan was to burn his redshirt they would have incorporated him into the offense by now.lol …wrong
But you do need to go back to the question of, how much of the playbook does he actually know? Bunch of posters here questioned whether he would even get a snap in this year due to lack of playbook knowledge.I think this has been mismanaged. If you wanted him to get his feet wet, give him a few series..not put him in for a few handoffs or a one read crossing route..
He should have played more in the Illinois game and the PSU game was a waste...
They may not have spent 5 years, but they also didn’t skip their senior season of high school. While some of the 5* freaks like Lawrence and fields are 3 and done, most need 4 or 5 years. Look at burrow, Pickett, mayfield, etc.. wimsatt was a big time recruit but he’s far from a 1st round lock.Outside of a major injury, most top 100 rated players only last 3-4 years in college. Gavin was rated 40s on 247, 65 on Rivals, all other sites had him graded out top 50/100, top 5/10 QBs for 2022, around 200 for 2021. That doesn't change his talent because he's here a year early, just accelerates his learning curve, better coaching from Gleeson than HS, fixing footwork, release, etc. now instead of Jan and spring ball. He has that kind of player potential think CJ Stroud, OSU, Alabama QBs, OU QB, Ga QB, Clemson QB, etc. Those QBs are never there 5 years. It won't hurt him losing a possible 5th year in college here.
Owensboro was 2-1 when Gavin left, they are 12-1 now. He was a Varsity starting QB since his Sophomore year, 12-2 19-20, 12-1 20-21, what is an extra 10 HS games against the same X number of teams from KY you've seen the last 2 years. Those games aren't as beneficial as you think if he was considered the #1 player for the state of KY in 2022.They may not have spent 5 years, but they also didn’t skip their senior season of high school. While some of the 5* freaks like Lawrence and fields are 3 and done, most need 4 or 5 years. Look at burrow, Pickett, mayfield, etc.. wimsatt was a big time recruit but he’s far from a 1st round lock.
Kid is the same age as a lot of other Frosh (turned 18 in Sept).Kid should be in high school why would we waste a year of eligibility?
Not criminal just dumb. He needs a year in the weight room and a year studying the offense. A fifth year QB is pretty much always better than a fourth year.Kid is the same age as a lot of other Frosh (turned 18 in Sept).
Bottom line: whatever the STAFF and Gavin - likely his parents back in September as well - agreed to do this year is ALL that matters. The rest of these posts calling it “criminal” all all this other nonsense matter at all. There is a PLAN let it be lol!
** Someone else called a “criminal” I was just throwing it out there. Sorry! Not criminal just dumb. He needs a year in the weight room and a year studying the offense. A fifth year QB is pretty much always better than a fourth year.
Agree that saving the redshirt probably doesn't matter very much. But by the same token, burning the redshirt without a good reason would just be dumb. And GS isn't dumb. Vedral, despite his warts, is almost certainly more likely to help the team win at this time. So he'll start (baring sickness or injury).** Someone else called a “criminal” I was just throwing it out there. Sorry!
You’re making a huge assumption that a top 100 player will be here in his 5h year. Again, so long as everyone was on the same page with him playing this year, what does it matter? Now he’s gotten his feet wet so when you throw out him out there in Game #1 at Boston College he should be ready a tad more “ready.” At least over the jitters.
You never know for sure with Greggie. Not redshirting wimsatt would be professional malpractice at this point. Legit insanity.
As far as I’m concerned Johnny Fooball should take that ******* out within the first half of the first quarter.A few points:
1. Playing him in Indiana game when you are up 38-3 made no sense
2. By 2023 when next years linemen are Sophomores, we will have a good offensive line with some depth which should give Gavin some real sense that 2023 can be a successful year for the offense.
3. If we are doing well against Maryland, do not put him in. I’m sure he would rather play in a bowl game. If we are losing big to Maryland, the issue is moot.
4. All of his appearances this year and if he is inserted into Maryland game had nothing to do with determining game results. They were merely made to get his feet wet.
5. Don’t get Gavin’s ankle twisted by Finau, who in my opinion should be suspended from this game by Locksley.
I think they've been doing that already. Have you seen the list of near 300 pound kids we're bringing in?The coaching staff should be concentrating on finding an OL to block for him.
Not being critical but I'm interested in the thought process that brings you to this conclusion. No way Wimsatt stays at Rutgers for 5-years, I'll take that bet today. Better chance he's playing at Western Kentucky in 2-3 years.
This. Johnny should run full force and lower his shoulder right into this thug.As far as I’m concerned Johnny Fooball should take that ******* out within the first half of the first quarter.
