Every single time he gets the ball, does everyone see that?
That would be the first thing I’d address with him if I were Pike and continued to start him and give him starters minutes.
He doesn’t get the ball out out of his hands until he exhausts his shooting opportunity

He’s a role player. Scary when kids who are limited in skills think they’re much better than they are. Coaching staff needs to address this.

He gives a full Ayo Dosunmo impression before he decides to give the ball up.
Certainly that can be addressed on film with him

The biggest issue is because Caleb looks too long at the basket ...the half court offense comes to a HALT, the defense catches up and the shot clock is down a bunch and then he either takes a bad shot or gives it up to someone who has to throw up a bad shot

This happens way too much

Not difficult to address Shack, it’s what coaches do and what coaching is all about.
You address it with him on film and explain to him what you want and expect from him in regard to ball movement…you warn him if it continues you will be benched.
Is that not a viable way to deal with it?

He doesn’t “look to shoot”. He just stinks at shooting. Not the same thing.

Against DePaul, he attempted 6 of our total 63 shots. He played 21+ minutes so that means over the course of a 40 minute game he attempted less than 20% of the shots. That’s not exactly “looking to shoot”. It’s unfortunate that he can’t even seem to connect right now when wide open from mid range.

The positive right now is that our defense has looked pretty rock solid with the core rotation of 6 and even with Mag (who has to cut down on turnovers). Pike teams tend to improve over the season and they win through defense. Some of you think this is boring and are clamming for more offense but that’s not how this team can be successful.

I think Jones can be a nice offensive spark off the bench. 15 or so minutes with the right players surrounding him on the help defense when he misses his assignments (Caleb and Hyatt). At some point, Pike is going to need to convey to Agee and Reiber that their role on defense is basically to protect the rim even if it means fouling - like Doucoure would do. Agee is going to get destroyed against BIG centers but I’m encouraged to see that Hyatt plays pretty big.

Caleb goes through the gyrations of looking to shoot every time he gets it, he takes up way to much shot clock and holds the ball…don’t care about shot attempts, he stalls the offense….address it.
Rebounding is part of defense

Yes...and it bugs me that the staff doesn’t coach it out of him ..ditto with Mathis when he was here

He’s not a good distributor in terms of ball movement. Gets stuck with the ball some and doesn’t know what to do with it. Part of that is how off his shot has been - nobody is guarding him closely. Daring him to shoot. I think it’s actually the opposite. He seems afraid to shoot and then when there isn’t anyone open to pass to he shoots because how can he not - wide open. I’m optimistic that he’ll snap out of this somewhat though. He wasn’t this bad last year. The Yips describes it well.

The strategy the first 5 minute is failure
DePaul was our best first 5 minute effort so far. We never trailed during that period and had a 9-7 lead at 14:29 mark. No great shakes I know, but when you compare to how we started some of the other games it was an all star effort.

He was a fantastic player 2 years ago. Was a spark everytime he was in the game. What has happened to him? Can someone with a higher BB IQ than me please explain?
