4 Games in: it’s obvious that Caleb should sit

Caleb is their favorite defensive player. He’s given us good games in his career, in The tourney he may have been our best player last year, most consistent at least. Hard to give up on him, but Jones and Hyatt have to play 25-30 minutes and someome has to sit

WTH happened to his shot? Its completely regressed from his freshman year

Does the team give eye exams? Maybe he needs glasses.

Just as bad is how he dribbles the ball into oblivion every time he touches it.

Starters: Geo, Ron, Cliff, Paul, Hyatt

Second wave for guards (for now): Caleb, Jaden
Too many ball handlers/iso players with Geo, Ron, and Paul already. There’s a reason why JY worked out so well as a sixth man for awhile. Caleb would be better as a facilitator and Jones as a major scoring threat.

Second wave for bigs: Mawot, Reiber, an improved Agee
They won’t get much individual offensive possessions, so make sure we have some scorers with them, while they work on defense, rebounds, and clean-up buckets.

paul m. has not played defense for 3 years, jones needs to play a lot of minutes for this team to be competitive......
I don't think this is entirely true. PAul is mostly a willing defender. He does lose his man a bunch and he does get beat off the dribble. He is long and active and gives effort. HE had 2 steals being in passing lanes earlier in the game.

Does Pike treat all players the same? I don't think so.
Does Jones need to be molded to a complete player? Absolutely

This is more than a slump, it’s a trend…. A disturbing one.

Yes

From the get go and revealed more last night, Agee doe snot appear to have B10 level talent or size. Cringeworthy watching him to try to finish without any real hope. Think giving Reiber a longer lease is necessary to see if he can be a larger presence.

Reiber witb no instincts or will to position himself for a tough rebound

I agree. Depaul's first three of the game was PM's man, where he was trying to help too much down low and left the guy too much room, this has been a problem for him and he needs to know that shooter is his primary cover. A few times during the game he was covering a guy with the ball and I said to myself "watch the baseline", the third time the guy tried baseline and PM snuffed it. He did get his ankle broken for a three later in the game but it happens. I don't think he is as a bad a defender as stated on this board.

Hes not bad but cannot cover a fast guard; He just plays off his man too much as an aside Geo unfortunately does the same thing now it did allow PM to get two steals but more often than not it reuslts in a wide open 3 or on the runout his man will blow by him

I still don't get the constant referencing "St. Bonaventure loss" as such a bad loss, they have been as good as Winthrop, Belmont, Liberty, Loyola(Ill), VCU, etc. for a while. They are one of the best mid major program the last 4-5 seasons, 39-14(A10) as a team since that win over us in 2019. They probably make the tourny in 2019-20, they made the tourny 16-5 20-21, 5-0 so far this year, with wins over Boise St, Clemson and Marquette in the title game. It wasn't a bad loss than, and even less now as St Bonaventure wins and Coach Mark Schmidt proves it. St Bonaventure made the tourny 26-8 in 2017-18, 18-16 2018-19 and missed the tourny in the A10 finals 53-55 to St Louis. 18-19 Fordham loss and 19-20 Pitt loss was more of an bad loss than St Bonaventure was. We will see how bad of a loss the DePaul loss turns out by the end of the season than quick judgement today.

Obvious 2 years ago he’s the biggest liability and reason we lose games we shouldn’t

Would Chuck Tanner play a guy that didn’t know the signs and missed cuts.
No.
Nor can answer you with a baseball analogy that would fit.
I can’t think of any sport analogy that describes how badly he single-handedly destroys our attempt to run an offense

1. I just did
2. How about if the Mets batted the pitcher 4th and Rey Ordonez 8th

Last year Pike benched Mathis and Young and it was crystal clear it was because they killed the fluidity of the half court offense. He sat Caleb after a bad possession last game.

The worry shouldn't be how Pikiell is using the roster. The worry should be the roster.

It was after the January 21st loss to Penn State. Jan 24th Mathis and Young were removed and replaced with Caleb and Paul in the starting lineup

I agree paul always brings the effort, imo you have to let Jones play. A player with his skillset will work out his problems on his own with PT and coaching. We are going to need him to score during league play.

Not sure what happened to him, but he has been truly awful in every aspect of his game so far this season.

And he gives up a 3 at buzzer. He should not see the floor. He adds zero value. Passing stinks, shot stinks, slow, methodical and D isn’t even that great. Truly feel the team goes completely backwards when he is on the floor

Instead of taking like a 3 foot jump shot, he faked and then made it into a fade away. The mental aspect of his game is all sorts of messed up right now for him.
