Why losing JY hurts

I think the intangible is that teams had to respect offense from our guards. As a fan, you knew JY was going to elicit some emotion - “awww” or “awww f”
Like I said, I’d prefer a traditional point that can break down a defense and dish all the while playing under control which JY struggled with at times. Geo is a natural 2, PM is more like a point forward and apparently Miller is not ready to play yet. He and the walk on kid were the only guys in white last night not to get into the game it seems.

The real reason why JY leaving hurts- is bc we haven't been recruiting replaceable talent.. Just wait until next yr. Losing Geo & Ron will probably hurt even more
Had Geo left we could have filled his spot out of the portal. Ron as a 3 is harder to replace.

In a tie game with four minutes left townsend dropped the ball that would’ve put us up a touchdown. There were still four minutes left -it was not a catch for the win. The rest of the game shows much happened after so it was not a "catch for the BCS".

In fact Ito drilled a field goal to put us up three-after the drop. The possession ended with a score. And with 4 mins left. So if the thought is we score and we win, well we did score....but it didnt produce a W.

Had there been a defensive stand over the last 4 mins, we would’ve won the game.

What occurred is that West Virginia drove down and hit a field goal from the 30 yard line. Had we been up a touchdown they would’ve been more aggressive and who knows if they would’ve scored a touchdown. Wvu did what they needed to do and kicked a field goal to send it to overtime.

Therefore, Townsend’s catch would not have won the game. It would’ve put us up a touchdown with four minutes left. A good thing for sure but not a we go to the BCS if he catches that, which is what gets repeated as if he catches it we win. If he catches it who knows---equally speculative either way given WVU drive the field. Could easily say that it was the D who let qb Brown drive the field and that is the BCS heartbreak as we were up 3.

I had a thought like this last night. These mid majors get up for these games and give everyone their best shot. Usually they don't take them to OT, and a lot of that is that the top high major teams have multiple guys who are just too physically dominant for the mid major. JY is that type with his speed. Cliff has some of that and we wouldn't have won without him (easy to say when the game goes to OT, I know).

He was our best player..
best defender.. other than Myles.. and Myles would have foul trouble.

But JY and Mathis were too selfish.. yeah.. they could deliver a fair portion of the time.. but they took everyone else out of the game on offense. JY would occasionally dish.. more last year than the previous year... but he left because he didn't want to play in a team offense situation.. or so people say.. he looked selfish fairly often (again, less than previous year) and that wasn't selfish enough for him.

And, yes, I'd still love him to be here because his D skills were unique.

but.. the Slaton FUMBLE.. where was it.. inside their 5? And the mugging of Ray Rice on the 2 point attempt? Townsend catch or not.. we wuz robbed... but worst thing was losing to Cinci.. they cheated.. unsportmanlike tackling of our wideouts so they could play man and shut down our running game.. but we should have adjusted and won that game. If not for that game, we need not have had to beat WVU for a BCS bowl game.. and that game would have been to go undefeated and I don't think the refs could cheat enough to stop that from happening. So ultimately.. it was R fault..

In the Big Ten you need BIGS. I think we can find guards and scorers (thought 3-point shooters have been a problem).. but RHJ is a unique player.. we cannot rely on the portal to provide bigs,. We need some more recruits like Cliff... get a pipeline going where people leave we have the replacement here already. It is a supply chain issue.
