We realistically have no shot here. For the most part without an official visit we are persona non gratis. Maybe by making the Dance this year again will have a cause and effect with recruiting . It doesn’t mean we won’t get some very good players going forward only not those 5***** kids.I can live a bit longer if that is how it still is. Sorry to offend some on the board.

Rutgers got Mulcahy from Gill St.Bernards but this recruit is at a far higher level probably at the one and done level.

I'm actually okay with not getting 1-and-done players. I actually think it would be disruptive to a program like ours that is more of a "developmental" program that should be relying on players that stay three or four years. See, e.g., Indiana.

2& through like Pikes is hinting about Cliff should work. 😉

The official/unofficial distinction seems to have more to do with geography. He can get his expenses paid by Michigan/Memphis to fly out there. He can drive to here, UConn, and Villanova.

I'd still be surprised if he doesn't end up at Duke FWIW.

Don’t remember too many who were rated that highly not taking an official to the school he/ she winds up committing to. That does not mean he could not take an official visit later in the recruiting process. We need another NCAA appearance THIS season in order to establish a mindset in the viewpoint of recruits. I like where we are and where we can get to … we just have to DO IT.

Coach K is retiring at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see if Jon Scheyer can attract the high-level recruits Coach K did.

You never know when a long time coach leaves a school. Sometimes it doesn’t work out as well and sometimes there is a big drop off—
Miami and Florida State football
UCLA and Indiana basketball
Alabama football after Bryant when Florida, Tenn, and Auburn took over the SEC
Texas and Virginia Tech football
UConn and Saint Johns basketball

Rutgers can make the tournament every year for a decade and I still would not think they could land kids of this caliber. Is what it is.

"I'm actually okay with not getting an elite player who can take Rutgers to the next level." Do you hear yourself? Gonzaga was a developmental program for a long time and I don't think Jalen Suggs was "disruptive" to that last year. This is cope.

When I see articles about great kids, from great family's- who are under the radar - with stacked offer sheet from the Fairfield's, and Unc Wilmington's- then I'll pay attention

We’re nowhere near Gonzaga. They’ve been elite for years and now recruit consistently at an elite level. They can afford to take a 1-and-done because there’s probably another one right behind, and another one behind that, plus several other top 50 to 100 players.

My point is that inserting a 1-and-done into a developmental program does not necessarily “take Rutgers to the next level.” As Indiana has proven, it’s just as likely to disrupt the program and set it back.

Talk to me in five years when we’re a consistent top 10 team like Gonzaga.

If Steve Pikiell makes Rutgers a consistent top 10 team recruiting at the level he does now, he deserves his own wing in the Hall of Fame.
