Soundly? We took the lead for good with 4 minutes left in that game. I thought it was one of Pike’s worst coaching jobs since he’s been here.
Everything changed two to three weeks ago. Read all the Cuse sites and see what happened there . It had nothing to do with the decommit. Connect the dots.

It’s very hard to win head to head against them. They have legends who have played there in the last 25 years including multi millionaire nba stars. They play in front of 35,000 fans. It’s a very good story. Hopefully Pikiell will get there one day.

They also didn't have Buddy Boeheim (I know we were missing Geo too)

Boeheim will die on the bench one day. That guy is never retiring.
Didn’t he say he was retiring in a couple years when they had some kind of scandal with one of the long time assistants. That was around the Sandusky trial time period.

It would be nice to win more of these battles. Finishing in the Top 3 means little. NCAA Tournament team, playing in a top conference, in front of sold out crowds in a raucous home gym, along with a state of the art practice facility, and a stable coaching situation gives us a lot to sell. Much more than we have had to work with in a long time. Cliff and Jaden are evidence that it can be enticing, but overall I don't see the recruiting momentum I was hoping for as all these pieces came into place. Maybe I am being unrealistic. I can't help but wonder what role NIL opportunities are playing in these recent decisions. This maybe another hurdle to overcome as I am sure Syracuse Basketball has some strong financial backers aligned with Boeheim, who can now legally throw their weight around.

The recruit mentioned playing for Boeheim as a factor in his decision, implying
that he is a legendary coach
Hopefully Boeheim retires soon

Landing big fish at Rutgers has always been a major hurdle. Tough sell against teams with histories of success and Hall of Fame caliber coaches.
Bunch is not a "big fish." He's good but his final 3 was Washington (awful the last two season), Syracuse (basically a .500 ACC team going on seven seasons now) and Rutgers. We do need to start winning battles against other schools like this.

Now to be fair we did land Braeden Moore when we was taking official visits to places like Nebraska and Wisconsin. That was a nice recruiting job but everyone in the conference gets guys like this every year. It's sort of the baseline expectation. I think Derek Simpson is an underrated recruit and I'm fine taking one unrated guy like that.

The Antwone Woolfolk take is the one that makes no sense to me.

NIL played a definite role in this case.

At some point you need to win some of these… Obviously he’s not going anywhere but since Jaden Jones we have missed on every big time prospect.

You mean since the 4 star he landed…checks calendar… last year?

Was Braeden Moore not a recruiting win over Gard and Hoiberg?

Moore is not a 4-star on Rivals or 247. ESPN does but they're seriously stretching the definition of 4-star because they have something like 210 players rated as a 4-star.

I think the days of fretting over missing out on a particular recruit is over. As long as we continue to compete at a high level and sustain NCAA tourney regularity, I will leave the recruiting to coach and his staff to secure the right fit players for us. Now that we made essentially (2) NCAA bids in a row, the next step is to rise to the top echelon of the Big 10. That will be Pike's next challenge as we all will be talking about a higher tourney seed so we don't play a #1 or #2 seed after winning round one game.

Classic Pike just delivered 2 back to back tournament seasons. Classic Pike is the best coach at RU in the last 45 years. Classic Pike had this team ranked as low as 11 during the season. I say Classic idiotic post Jorkap.
We have a Hall of Fame coach on the women’s side.

Was referencing Jones in the first part in response to his comment mentioning him.

Sold out crowds in a raucous home gym is something that just started happening again two seasons ago because of the teams Pike put together, and last year that wasn’t really something we could showcase given we were playing in an empty arena. Someone like Bunch who is making their decision right now didn’t get to come visit for a game and see that first hand.

The stable coaching situation is a great thing we have going for us, but it’s also not a great selling point when you’re going up against Syracuse who has had the same coach for 45 years.

We made the tournament one time. It’s a step in the right direction but it takes more than that to change perception and get recruits to choose Rutgers over schools that go to the tournament almost every year.

Not surprised. We better figure out how to play this game because college basketball recruiting has always been shady and now it no longer needs to be done in the shadows. All those other attributes I listed pale in comparison to this factor going forward when it comes to getting highly sought after recruits.
