Fans got a little overjoyed by last week's moral victory. But @zappaa had the correct call in his thread. Ohio State has a much more dynamic offense and talent team than Michigan. It is not even close.

Nothing is a given on our schedule, but games left on our schedule that are winnable (in order of difficulty):

Northwestern - getting pasted by Nebraska
Illinois--BTN talked about Art getting reps today. Surprised he did not. Peters is not good.
Indiana
Maryland and Wisconsin- unless they improve dramatically on offense.
Michigan State (not sure they should be this high on the difficulty list)

Penn State--Penn State will be a very tough game. The ones above the line are winnable. Win 3 of those 6, and Rutgers goes bowling. Most fans did not even predict that--most had RU at 4-5 wins.

We have beaten Michigan once and almost beat them last year. We have never played Ohio State remotely close. In the time that we've been in the Big Ten Michigan has been up and down but Ohio State has been part of a trio of teams utterly dominating college football at the top. A close game against Michigan in no way meant we were going to play OSU close. It would've been thrilling but it shouldn't be a surprise that it wasn't.

Posted this in another thread about Clawson at Wake Forest, now 5-0.

Clawson is in Year 8. It has been a slow build:

3-9/1-7
3-9/1-7
7-6-/3-5 --lost by 32 to Louisville, by 22 to Clemson
8-5/4-4--no major blowout losses
7-6/3-5-annihilated by Clemson, crushed by Notre Dame, lost by 21 to Pitt
8-5/3-4--annihilated by Clemson
4-5/3-4 Blown out by Wisconsin in bowl, lost by 24 to Louisville and Clemson
5-0/3-0

Posting these results for the benefit of those looking glowingly at BC's "close" loss to a crappy Clemson team. Progress is not linear. By year 4, you would think that Clawson had turned a corner at WF. Year 5 was a setback, and year 6 they were destroyed by Clemson; year 7 was worse.

Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama should never be measuring sticks for rebuilding and middling teams. I don't know why some Rutgers fans think today was a measuring stick for anything.

Ohio always seems to play RU hard right out of the gate. You would think they might sleepwalk now and then but the dont lol. Maybe since Ohio always has top NJ players they bring a little extra sauce

Indiana has lost what 31 times in a row to OSU. I don't expect to beat them unless we have a great line and a dynamic QB.

I think getting 3 conference wins will be tough but possible. I feel less optimistic about the MSU game, they look to be very improved. I feel a little more optimistic about possibly upsetting Wisconsin or Indiana. The games against NW and Illinois are must wins if RU is to become bowl eligible.

Of course this was your post on another thread the other day commenting on Al's upset alert.

Al presents excellent arguments for a guaranteed win.
If I were an OSU fan, I would be very scared going into this game.
As far as Al s streak is concerned, all streaks must come to an end eventually.
This week could be it.

Northwestern and Illinois, unless they turn it around, look to be the easiest wins.
After than, Indiana or Wisconsin, or Maryland, it that order. Depending on which teams show up on both sides, optimistic that RU could win one of those three.

NW and Indiana are last and second to last in team defense in the B1G



Michigan State has looked good, but their level of competition has been low.
WKU's QB nearly threw for 500 yards yesterday in a 48-31 victory. Michigan State's goal line defense held WKU to 3 field goals in the first half on 4 goal line stands. MSU also had a punt return TD and a short field on a WKU turnover.

MSU beat Nebraska 23-20 in OT. Nebraska seems to have stepped it up, and they pummeled NW yesterday.

Beating Miami 38-17 is a nice win, but 4 turnovers and a crappy Miami team had as much to do about that victory than MSU playing great.

MSU beat a now 1-3 Youngstown State 42-14, not impressive.

I'm not saying MSU sucks, because being 5-0 is impressive, but I'm curious to see how they will do against more formidable competition. MSU's defense is second to last in yards per game, but most of that is passing yards.

MSU opened the season against NW, beating them 38-21.

What concerns me the most about MSU is their balanced offensive attack and our lack of passing offense. The game seems like it could be a poor man's Ohio State (balanced offense, weak defense) against a poor man's Iowa (weak passing, strong defense)
