Maybe if Ricky Santos came out of retirement and was granted a 5th year by the NCAA.

People forget how good a QB he was. Multiple 1AA All America. Walter Payton Award for best player in 1AA. Was 3rd all time in the NCAA in passing yards when he was done.
I think that was the famous post game fireworks night. I don't think anyone stayed to watch them. All I remember is walking out of the stadium and people saying "I thought those days were over" and "I can't believe what happened". The name Ricky Santos will live forever in the memories of every Rutgers fan in attendance that night.

there really needs to be a lower tier FBS Northeastern conference once the AAC eventually falls apart... Temple, UConn, UMass, Buffalo, Stony Brook, Delaware, Army, Navy, Villanova, Liberty

perfect not only for the region but also good for scheduling for nearby upper conference schools like Rutgers, Syracuse, Maryland, Penn State, Virginia, Va Tech, etc
That would actually be a fun conference for all of those schools involved. They could play 9 games, schedule another similar school, and two big time eastern schools. That would be an interesting and entertaining schedule.

I was 15, and my Father and I were walking out of the east gate (our seats were in 224) as the fireworks began to be set off on the practice fields - it was like salt in the wound. Never have I felt more dejected with fireworks going off over my head...

Same for Kent State, IIRC.
Tulane also ruined a Homecoming not too long ago.

I have a couple of friends who are U Del grads (one of the top chem eng'g schools) and they're diehard football fans who tailgate and go to every game. Attendance used to average over 20K, but has dropped a bit the past 10 years, despite pretty good success.

Live in Newark, DE. And they did have a pretty good attendance. I think the drop corresponds to them trying to institute Seat Licenses/Mandatory donations for a lot of their seating areas. If I recall, they may have also changed tailgating areas that a lot of people were able to use for the last 25 years to be limited to big donors.

@CollegeObserver Correct me if I'm wrong.

You've got it right. I also live in Newark, DE having moved from Monmouth County last year. Some of the older fans got butt hurt from having to pay more for seating and parking. I think we will be building back, if coach Rocco can get the team on a roll. Just built a beautiful new athletic performance center for $63 mill, with $38 mill raised privately. There is a huge state of the art weight room that is part of it. Unfortunately, we missed the boat with staying "college division" back in the late 60's. Of course, the State of Delaware has less than 1 mill residents and does not have the same "creative" financing as New Jersey. :)
