Eugene also made the Dallas Mavericks roster, signing a contract a few days ago. Also, Garza, Wiggins, Jalen Smith, Lamar Stevens, and Grimes (from Houston) are other guys who've looked good in summer league and who we're familiar with.

He's doing a good job for the Mavs in the Summer League and signed a two way contract that allows him to play for the Mavs and be sent to their development team NBA G League Texas Legends.
Two-way players are eligible to be active for 50 of their team’s 82 games during the regular season . Most two-way players earn a flat rate of $462,629, half the rookie minimum.

Back when certain people here were posting that Eugene couldn’t make their LA Fitness squad (never forget), I felt that with some development, EO could be the next closest thing to a Draymond Green at the next level. Dallas can use some toughness given that their second highest paid player is the softest 7’3 guy of all time, and Eugene can provide it from the 3/4/5 spots in the nba.

Pike didn't misuse him. Misusing him would have him jacking 3s all over the place. RU needed a tough inside presence to rebound and score down low
Yes, I think mis-used is incorrect. Eugene knew if he wanted to go the NBA, he needed to develop his perimeter skills. Remaining with Rutgers as an undersized power forward was not going to get him where he wanted to go.

I guess my question would be, what kind of communication was there between player and coach on this? But it's water under the bridge now.

Stop. No one thought that after his freshman year. He could barely dribble freshman year and showed zero flashes of excellence. If you disagree post a clip from his frosh year

He was not good his freshman year. He made big leaps his sophomore and junior years here.

Watched the summer league highlights from Eugene 20pt game. He looked like beast on both ends of the floor. Even his jumper looks good from mid range and 3

EO was helped by the coaching he received when he played for Rutgers.
Why he left is subject to interpretation.
Could be he felt he would be able to showcase that improvement better at Oregon or
just didn't feel confortable at RU anymore and felt it would be better to leave .

Pike developed Eugene. Him leaving was a gut punch. Pike wouldn't have flown to Canada if it weren't.

Ha.
Can we save this and repost it in a year when RHJ transfers to Oregon?

I kid….I kid….

But this does sound exactly what could be going on with RHJ and his role this year.
His NBA future isn’t as an undersized power forward.

This is why the nba sucks. Back in the day the omoruyi foul was just a regular foul. Now it is a flagrant 2 and gets an ejection. The game is soft

Pike misused him. He had to leave to take the next step.
I wouldn't doubt Eugene thought that and decided to transfer for that reason.

But he averaged 13 points a game at Rutgers and 17 points a game at Oregon.

So he transferred for 4 points a game. Which he probably would have scored at Rutgers as an older, more experienced, more polished player anyway.

I’m not a hater like you but I’ll bite and call it like I see it. Pike allowed EO to do pretty much whatever he wanted here. If anything he allowed him to shoot too much so that probably was misuse. I liked EO but he couldn’t get us to the dance and we have been 2 years in a row now. You do remember when we list almost every BIG game right? You trashing Pike every day makes you look like a fool. Sorry but that’s just how I see it. You’re probably a good guy who just gets his needle stuck on the vinyl.

I’m happy EO has made it this far. The guy worked really hard and he definitely improved every year as mentioned above. Good for him.

“Analysis”

Look at the difference in how those 4ppg came. At Oregon he shot 3 3s a game vs 1.2 at Rutgers, on a better percentage. For that skill development alone, he probably considers his transfer worth it, since that skill is what makes him draftable in the nba at his size. He already had the other intangibles.

People seem to also forget the other element of the transfer at the time. There were loud rumblings that EO wanted to redshirt so his leg could properly heal, and Pike allegedly told him he couldn’t sit a year.

Omoruyi started shooting 3s as a junior here, something he clearly worked on in the offseason, and he was hitting at a really good rate (started 11/27 from deep over the first 13 games for .407 on 2.1 attempts/game). Then he got hurt again against Ohio State, and again rushed back before he was fully healed.... and he finished the season on 1.5 legs, shooting 3/18 the rest of the way on 1.2 att/g.

He needed a season to get healthy, and he got it with the transfer year. His shot was already coming along, and his scoring potential was ready to jump up - but he needed time to get his body right.

OR he didnt like his teammates and knew it would be best to take a year off because of his knee............and there is a remote chance there was money involved too.

I'd say it's a flagrant 1, imo. Used to be a "hard foul", but no longer. It meets the flagrant 1 requirements. There was a push, which could have resulted in injury. I have no problem with the flagrant 2, however, since you could say that it was intentional.
