Wow. Quite surprised. Wouldn’t shock me if he has a similar nba career to that of Huerter.

Geo’s biggest issue at the NBA is athleticism. Firmly a below average athlete at the NBA level. Almost or about average for college. He has some NBA playing style traits but his skills need improvement too.

He has the skill set of making shots off the dribble which enhances NBA status.as compared to other players who are more stationary shooters..
Put it this way, Garza wishes he could have Weiskamp’s length and athleticism.

He won't be a good defender by NBA standards but he's athletic enough to fit in and he should do enough offensively to be worth it. Remember that he won't have Jordan Bohannon, CJ Fredrick, and Luka Garza on the floor with him in the NBA.

Weiscamp likely staying in the draft because of the success of Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro last year and Kevin Huerter this year. If you can flat out shoot , plus put it on the floor a little , you will be part of today’s NBA. They will run Weiscamp off of down screens and he will launch all day. He has enough athleticism to get open like Huerter did this year. He is a really good 3 point shooter whose accuracy will improve with even more NBA coaching and practice time. He is also not a terrible defender. Still hate him for the banked corner 3 and that might be forever !!!!!!

Good. I hope he stays put. He was the one player that seemed to burn us more times than not. Who can forget his last second shot at the RAC as a freshman, and then the way he has gone off and nailed big time threes against us.

Who's playing center for Iowa this year?
Filip Rebraca, a North Dakota transfer. Has a wide game (can shoot it a bit) but I don't expect him to be anything special.

They also have Josh Ogundele who we recruited. Barely played last season behind Garza and Nunge so not sure what his game is like.

If this kid is expected to replace Garza as the focal point of their offense, Iowa may be in for a huge drop off. In fairness, the kid’s sample size of games played against “teams with pulses” is extremely small (he did match up well against Liam Robbins). His team was not competitive against Drake and it doesn’t seem he was that big a factor in that one.

Maybe Iowa will just have a completely different look next year. It wasn’t until Garza came on board and became a force that Iowa resembled a good basketball program though. They don’t have a history of winning through defense and I just don’t see that many playmakers on their roster.

Iowa is going to be about shooting (Bohannon and the McCaffrey bros) and Keegan Murray's stretch-4 ability.

The McCaffrey brothers are not shooters. If that’s truly the plan, Iowa will really be in trouble. Connor is also recovering from major surgery. Toussaint also had surgery in the off season by the way.

That's one reason I'm down on them. They're going from three incredible shooters and one very good one to... Just the one very good one (Bohannon). Their entire offense was propped up by Garza, Wieskamp, and Fredrick shooting 45% on 10+ three pointers a game. Replace those attempts with shots from Murray and the McCaffreys and that's a yikes.

The McCaffreys and Murrays (Keegan has a twin who didn't play much last year) give them length and they don't make bad decisions but the shooting is a big fall back

Kris Murray and Keegan Murray are twin brothers that were under-recruited.....they are both playing in the Spain tour with the Boeheim Brothers and along with both McCaffrey brothers at Iowa.

Bohannon played 29 minutes last season. His PT limited how good Iowa could be on defense, and I don’t expect that to change this season. With him on the floor, it’s hard to imagine Iowa as an above average defensive team. If Bohannon plays more than 29 minutes, it’s hard hard to imagine their defense not being even worse (he truly is that bad). The problem is he may need to play almost the whole game from an offensive perspective.

you are correct in that they return smart players who understood their roles on a team with all star playmakers. Not sure what that translates to though when those stars are removed from the equation.

This is half true. YES they don't win with defense, but responding NO on not having a pulse before Garza.

They made the tournament 2014, 2015 and 2016 and were 10-8 in 2017.

Since 2012 they have rated in the top 50 in offense every year.

Peter Jok and Jarrod Uthoff amaong some of the names from the past.

I'd have a tough time rooting for Joran Bohannon. Yes his D is awful.

Thinks about Iowa playing Rutgers. Can they hide Joran? Absolutely, I don't need to tell you who he can defend.

Joran does shoot 40.1% lifetime from 3 AND some are "volume" attempts.

1 - often enough, as well as deployment of switching schemes. It's what's allowed guys like Trae Young to focus mainly on offense while being able to "hide" his defensive liabilities.

2 - Aren't you one of the "people" who makes statements that defense is not played in the NBA? Are you suggesting that zone or switching D = no defense ?

That all being said - not sure if Wieskamp will stick in the NBA. However if he's good enough on O, a team will try and make it work via defensive scheming.

Your Right - I forgot about that stretch. They were bad before that.
