My concern. Even when the team played poorly through stretches and had losing streaks and also when guys were injuried or in foul trouble these guys were still unable to crack lineup and contribute. It wasn't like we were a well oiled machine all season. We were bad at times. There were plenty of opportunities for these guys to crack lineup.
Yet they didn't. That tells me they were very far behind in development.

your purely hoping these guys improve. It's based on nothing shown this year. Hence reason for concern.

Mag, whose injuries contributed to lack of playing time, is imo most likely of the three to be an impact player. As an early enrollee, I expected more of Palmquist and Reiber strikes me as more of a project. My understanding is that Pike is in the portal for a stretch 4, back-up center, and possibly another point/combo guard, which presumably says something about the progression of the mentioned freshman.

I didn't say I was hoping they would improve. I said there is a decent chance they may.

Mag saw minutes until he got hurt. Palmquist is at a position we have a lot of depth at. Reiber is a big, who generally aren't big contributors as freshmen unless they are Top 50 recruits.

Not worried about any of them right now.

I wouldn't count these guys out. Know they didn't show much but they didn't get much of an OC. schedule. Oftentimes a kid makes the most marked improvement from Frosh to Soph yr. for a variety of reasons.

Basically a redshirt year for all of them....

To be honest, I wasn't that impressed by Mags, Reiber, or Palmquist. I'm a little worried about carrying 3 scholarships for 3 more years with the hopes that one can improve the to the point of being an 8min per game contributor. Hoping Pikes did bring in a lot of rough with no diamonds in it.

I thought Oskar would do more. If we have him and Jones sniping next year we’ll be in good shape.

Agree. We would have thought Myles had no future if he played his RS year. We may not recruit at the level we all want but Pike can develop talent.

Couldn't it be four years if this one was essentially a freebie? I know its unlikely they would all remain for that long if not contributing but technically they all could have 4 years right?

Pike had to give his guys minutes. He only went to his deep bench when they had injuries or foul trouble. RU was a very experienced team 1-6 and Cliff played a big roll relieving Myles. I believe Mag was ready to play and contribute but got injured right when he started hit his stride. The other two guys have a lot to prove still. I’m definitely not writing them off but I see them both as possible role players in the future.

I think I will let coach pikiell make the personnel decisions of who has talent and who doesn’t.

EO’s development gives me hope for Mag, Palmquist and Reiber.

EO could barely dribble as a true freshman, but by midway through his sophomore year, he was a contributor, and ended up a star by his junior year.

Not saying this will absolutely happen with these three guys, but EO is a template for the way Pike develops players.

Myles is 6’11” with a 7’7” wingspan. There is a big difference here. I thought Palmquist would be better and had hopes for him. I think Mag can be a serviceable B1G bench player
at some point. Personally, I don’t have much hope for Reiber. The game is too fast for him.

For anybody who is worried about them not progressing and just staying around and leeching scholarships, I think the portal this year has shown that won't happen. Just relax and stop worrying about it.

These 3 players are critical because Baker,Harper and McConnell will all leave after next season and there scoring will be missed.

The game is usually too fast for freshman bigs to make meaningful contributions, unless they are Top 50 guys or just freak athletes. They usually haven't gotten the S&C they need in HS, or enough coaching on big man skills like footwork, body control, etc. They've also not faced the type of competition they'll see night in and night out in a major conference.

Freshman bigs just take longer to develop. If not for the changes to eligibility, Reiber would have almost certainly spent this year as a redshirt.

For reference, here are the last 12 centers on our roster, and what their D1 stats were their first year out of HS (leader in bold):

Reiber: 13 games, 0 starts, 5.8 min, 0.8 pts, 0.8 rb
Omoruyi (Top 50 HS recruit): 23 games, 6 starts, 14.9 min, 3.8 pts, 4.0 rb
Johnson: Redshirt
Carter: Juco
Doucoure: 34 games, 29 starts, 13.1 min, 2.4 pts, 3.4 rb
Doorson: 29 games, 0 starts, 10.3 min, 1.6 pts, 2.2 rb
Sa: Juco
Diallo: Redshirt
Lewis: 18 games, 1 start, 5.9 min, 0.6 pts, 1.0 rb
Jack (early enrollee): 18 games, 1 start, 8.3 min, 1.2 pts, 1.6 rb
Randall: 31 games, 10 starts, 11.3 min, 2.5 pts, 2.4 rb
A. Johnson: 32 games, 0 starts, 11.0 min, 2.6 pts, 2.1 rb

Palmquist hasn't shown much. Mag and Rieber are projects, but both showed flashes as freshmen of how the project would turn out, and there is hope there. But they are support players. Role players in their soph/junior years, and a chance at being impact players in their junior/senior years. These are good players to set the foundation for a great team if they stay in the program and accept their roles. But from what we've seen, we still need legit impact players through recruiting or the portal to stay at our current level of .500 record in conference.
