For those who are worried about Losing Jacob young ...I give you Jaden jones to replace his minutes. Different style of player ...and we will be fine with his production replacement

points is the easiest thing to replace in college basketball

Looks like there’s some traction with Josh Baker. How many years left to play?

not to be difficult, but with 1200 Division 1 players in the portal and to potentially land a JUCO recruit, knowing JUCOs (at least here) have struggled with the adjustment, is a bit head-scratching...

With 4 slots open, I’m okay with one JUCO. At this juncture, we’re expected to return 4 guys who started at least half the games they played in last year plus Cliff who is guaranteed to be a starter. You can’t expect to land more than a max of 2 plug and play type players with that type of retention when so many teams out there can offer a guaranteed starting slot. PM and CM are going to improve guys - there’s a whole off season. Some of the frosh might too. Give them a chance. With Geo and RHJ positioned to return we’re looking pretty good right now. Let Pike be patient and try to land one real stud, with this kid being the “chance” we take, and Pauly (hopefully) as the security to make sure that at least we have an option on the bench with D1 frontcourt experience.

He isn't shooting 48% in the BIg. Come on people. But we will take 35%
The question is whether he can get himself free to get an open look and if he has a quick enough release. I see no reason why his shooting percentage on wide open treys and on free throws would be any less in the B1G.

Every team gets open 3 point shots in every league. Just think back to this last year, how many open looks were there for Harper, McConnell, Baker, Mathis, Mulcahy and Young? Answer... A lot !!

He still has to be able to play at least mediocre defense to see the floor. All I’m saying is that historically a lot of first year JUCOs struggle to see time their first year in big time D1 conferences because of this (try to name some JUCOs who had big impacts their first year- there aren’t that many). I don’t know anything about him specifically though.

He was a scoring machine at Malcom X College.
Malcolm X was not a top level Juco Program. Comparing it to Hutchinson is like comparing Nova to FDU. Baker was a second team All State when he was in high school. Can shoot from the three line and foul line but not as good from two as from three. Not sure of his defensive ability. He is not a pure point more of a combo. Should we not get him we are also recruiting another Juco from another high power program that is more of a true point and this guy is a lock down defender. Shoots it better from all three levels but not at 50:from 3 like Baker. I actually prefer him to Baker.

Good find. As I said, it’s not that common and certainly more likely to find on a team starting with nothing (like the 2000-01 team that won 3 BE games and 11 games total). Obviously, more likely to happen on a team that isn’t returning much since the coach is forced to stick with the new kid despite a likely learning curve on defense. The team your talking about started the season with losses to East Carolina, VCU, and an OT win over FDU - but went on to win 18 games (albeit in what was probably the weakest RU conference schedule since moving to a major conference - BE west was weak that year). But again. It’s not impossible, and with 4 spots I have no problem with us taking a chance with one JUCO.

this. It was beyond maddening to see us shoot the percentage we did last year from three with the, relatively speaking, Overall total quality of look we got from three.

In theory, the looks were fine, but it is in context to where the 3s were taken from. I would not need a shot chart to know, the good percentage of 3s we made (or that most teams make) are the ones where the ball moves and finds a corner 3.....the corner 3 is a little shorter in distance and is usually a catch and shoot 3.

RU needs better passers to get the ball inside the foul line area and medium/low.post to then move it, to get cleaner looks.
