He’s a very good coach but let’s not go crazy. We’re talking about UCLA. They were picked to win the P12 and have 2 high 4 stars who are playing great. Granted they lost their best player earlier in the season, but it’s obvious they never should been a 12 seed.

Excellent coach-----he always has been.

But the Bruins were also a bit lucky-----last 2 opponents shot 17-36 from the foul line.

Only watched the first half but see they won only scoring 51 points. I would say he is still a defensive coach.

Blue collar type coach that plays tough defense and now at UCLA should be able to attract top tier talent

Cronin is Ohio’s version of Bobby & Danny Hurley. Cronin’s staff includes Darren Savino, Bobby Hurley’s high school teammate and a former Rutgers assistant. I assume when Coach Pikiell is finished at Rutgers, Savino gets a look here as a head coach.

Savino is 49. Pikiell is..52/53? I think Pikiell is going to be here a long time. So...ten(ish) years from now are we going to try and pluck a 59 year old?

The end of regulation against Alabama wasn’t his finest moment and could have cost him the game.

And yet...SPORTS. Nothing is perfect
Nothing is perfect but that was horrible coaching. Someone should have been on the ball and as soon as someone touches that ball you foul them. No excuse. If that was Pike I can only imagine the wrath he would face on here.

Pikiell doesn’t foul up three either. The statistics don’t support doing it. Not saying I agree but he is on record saying so.

And it was said fouling in that situation is his preferred play. If true, puzzling why he didn't.

History does not have Rutgers coaches staying too long, especially men’s basketball coaches. Where did your thought come from?

Crazy thing is a couple bounces the other way and they don’t even get out of the play in round
Coaches (from fan view point) are judged based on successful execution by players. When shots go in coaches are elevated, when they don't it's on the coach ...

I tend to think Pikiell is a lifer here. He’s done the unthinkable in the best league in the country. I don’t expect him to jump at a bigger job. He will be a legend here. Maybe just conjecture but even on a recent Jersey Jump Shot podcast, Carino called him a lifer. Why would he leave?

So true. RU fans who watched Savino as an asst here were mostly not impressed with him. A JC guy, he recruited Mike Rosario to RU for Fred Hill jr but never seemed to coach him up. Very turbulent times for RU MBB.

Savino’s success at UCLA is due to Mick Cronin imo. Would never want him back at RU.

Also would not buy a used car from him.

Savino is credited as the assistant who developed Hamady into an all Big East Defensive player.

Cronin and Savino teams at Cincinnati made it to the NCAAs all 9 years. And folks are taking pot shots at them here. Nothing ever changes.

Did Fred Hill Jr get similar credit as a Nova assistant under Jay Wright? Was Freddie an architect of Nova’s rise as a program from 01-05?

Apparently RU thought so. A colossal HC hiring screw up for us.
