Lol what is OP talking about?

Also, if you think Loyola is an 8 seed you’re oblivious. They deserved a 3 seed.

Actually a 10 seed losing to a 2 seed by 3 shows the opposite.

Houston will lose to Syracuse.
Yes, but we could have brought respectability. On top of this we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory to put an exclamation point to it. One would think the B1G grind would have taught us how to finish. It didn't.

Rutgers had to beat Houston to show how good BIG really is.
But we didn't so Big Ten may not be tough league to prepare you to succeed in the March Madness.

Why don't we have someone like Buddy Boeheim on the team?

We're actually not as good this year as we were last year. Winning in the first round was an achievement for this team, although yes, we should have won this game. Hopefully the younger players will learn from this game.

Dude I’ve been one of the most critical people on Pike and this team, but if you think losing to a 2 seed by 3 is a bad showing then you’re a potato

This was a beatable team that maybe shouldn’t have been a 2. We had them. And then we blew it. Anyhow, on to next year.

and that’s Mr. Potato

I felt like Vader, losing his kill at the last second, watching that game...

That's ok though. I shall feed my rage, anger and grief at this surprising defeat into the dark side.

It shall only make me stronger.

And we just put an exclamation on it with a massive choke.

'Dude, the tournament is crazy, plenty of upsets.

Its up to Maryland, Michigan, Iowa now.

Especially Iowa and Michigan if they can make it to final 4.

Rutgers was a 10 seed so the OPs point isnt valid
Original point was B1G got more hype than it perhaps deserved. The exclamation point was just to point out that even our lower ranked teams had limitations that B1G experience couldn't help with (closing out tough games). Yeah, Houston was a 2, but an overrated one IMHO. Anyhow, hopefully everyone will look back on this, gain motivation, learn and move forward as individuals, players, coaches and as a team. They should be proud of getting one in the tournament.

There is no way to measure how good any conference is unless they play against each other a lot.

This goes to show how useless the rankings are in CBB. The only ranking that counts is who wins the tournament.

This whole March Madness is designed to be entertaining and make tons of money.

They are laughing their asses to the bank the way the Big Ten is being embarrassed.

But this is better than what we have in football.

No one can say they did not have a shot to take out a top seed.

I think CBB has parity and that is a good things.

We were all set for an upset but didn't get the job done at the end.

We outplayed Houston for 38 minutes and then forgot how we played for 38 minutes in the last two minutes.

A conference's rating is determined by its OOC performance. Based on that criterion, the B1G was not at all overrated. It had the best OOC performance and was therefore rated as the strongest conference. It clearly underperformed its rating in the "second season". But that doesn't mean the rating was wrong.

I would add, though, that due to COVID, the OOC schedule was abbreviated and the sample size was small. Maybe with a full OOC, the B1G would not have been the top rated conference.

This.
I have been saying this same thing. Not enough OOC games to properly evaluate conferences. I think the mid majors were hurt by this since those teams did not get opportunities for Quad 1 wins and therefore were assumed to be weaker than they really were.

And then there was one. Unbelievable.
What's equally unbelievable is that barring a major turnaround in the next 15:22 and counting, the Big 12 will also have only one. The top two regular season conferences in the country by EVERY metric. Go figure.

So here is the deal....

UCLA barely got into the field and had a weak resume with little quality wins

Oregon State needed an improbable comeback to stay alive in the Pac 12 tourney and were not even thought of as a NCAA at large

Oral Roberts was seeded 4th in the Summit League tournament

Creighton was considered an afterthought in disarray after the Georgetown loss

Villanova was declared unfit for the NCAA due to injuries

Syracuse also with a weak resume benefitted from the bubble collapsing around them and two weeks before Selection Sunday were a fringe bubble candidate

Yep, they were definitely overrated. The showing by the B10 in the tournament is pretty embarrassing actually. Regardless of the OOC schedule or covid or anything else, to have only one out of nine teams get past the first weekend speaks for itself.

A one gam tournament does not show you a conference was overrated. big 12 overrated ? bIG 12 WAS rated 2nd best conference and they only have 1 team left.

The fact that the Big 12 also has just one team in the Sweet 16 pretty much obliterates the arguments made about the Big 10 the past few days.

Anything can happen in the NCAA tourney, I am going to bring this post up next year as a reminder....do not put that much emphasis on what a team did down the stretch or in the conference tournament. Yes some teams carry it over...see Oral Roberts and Oregon State...others do not see Illinois and Georgetown. Some schools lost in the quarters of their tournament...see Oregon and Villanova and look where they are now.

Yes, the B1G has fared poorly. With that said, the NCAA tourney is about matchups. Some teams don't match up well with others, especially when you haven't seen them all season and never played against them. If the tourney was best 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 5, I would imagine the higher seeds would come out on top more than they lose.

B12 was overrated as well. I don't think the matchups argument holds water. It's fine for one particular game, but it's about the body of work. When you have multiple higher seeds from each conference losing in the first weekend, it is pretty clear that neither the B10 or the B12 came through when it counted. You put up or shut up on the court. Both proved that they were overrated by the ratings services, pundits, and the seeding committee.

There’s lots of dinosaur ball being played by B1G teams. Teams beat the crap out of each other and then underperform in the tournament. Unless Michigan gets lucky, the B1G will be without a championship for 21 years. I would love it if the league brought in a coach like Mussleman, Drew, or even Moser to shake things up a little.

Explain in your own words why the "dinosaur ball" dominated the OOC schedule in November/December but doesn't work in March.
