Who is gonna cry/get teary-eyed when they see/hear our name announced on CBS this Selection Sunday? Not ashamed to say that I prob. will get a bit teary-eyed. Been a fan for only 26 years and I know some of you dwarf that... but if you dwarf it by a lot, that means you have seen us dance. I was a freshman in '95, I have never seen us dance. Gonna be emotional!

Just a side note, my father, who became a huge RU fan along with me in '95, passed away 2 months ago, so the fact that he isn't witnessing this, at least physically, will also probably be playing a role in my emotions. That said, if he was still alive and well I'd still likely get teary-eyed, ha!

for sure, lost my Mom last year and she had been on this journey with Rock and I since the early 90s going to A10 and Big East tourney and know she would be really excited and wondering if we can go to the NCAA games this year.

1991 the last time we went I was in college but didnt appreciated that moment because never thought we would go 30 years.

I can say I won’t cry ....but I am going to let out the most primal scream in the history of New Jersey when the name Hits the screen ...and I might set a record for my greatest vertical jump ....

Appologize in advance for anyone with hearing issues thereafter

I feel for all the RU fans who stayed loyal through the years and maybe are no longer here to witness this. I hope there's a special place where they're all gathering in the after-life to enjoy it together!

The announcement on Sunday will be extraordinary. It'll be the first time as a RU fan (I was 6 years old last time) that I see our name in a bracket!

But for me the special moment will be on Thurs/Fri seeing our team take the court on CBS, TNT, or whichever network it is .. with that signature NCAA logo at center court. That'll be the moment where I'm like wow, its really happening. Might be more excitement and nervous than emotional for me personally.

Same here bro. My Mom passed in May at 84 and went to all the games at the RAC. They all have the best seats in the house now. It's hard for me to think that the last time RU went to the NCAA was before I was married and I remember watching the game at home and my Mom coming home from work. She was 54. OMG

Only became an RU bball relatively recently (grew up a SHU fan living by campus and had a family member very involved with louie orr). So for me it doesnt feel as long as it will for some of you. Making the tourney is always fun though. As a former SHU fan I remember skipping school to watch guys like sha halloway and darius lane make a run to the sweet 16 under tommy and beating oregon in OT to kick things off. Then under louie orr seeing guys like andre barrett, kelly whitney, jr morris, jamar nutter, andre sweet and banger take down zona then get pummled by duke and a couple years later getting smoked by the shockers in the first round and thinking who the F is Wichita state and how it cost louie his job which in hindsight making the tourney 2 of his 3 last years at SHU probably shouldnt have been grounds for dismissal.

anyway it will be fun to see us in a bracket. It should be the expectation that were at minimum a bubble team every year though, no excuse not to be.

truthfully throughout college I remained a SHU fan and only attended like 2-3 total bball games during my time at RU. Grew up an RU football and SHU bball fan. Took me a long time to get off the SHU bball train

Looks like there are quite a few us that fall in this category. He didn't go to Rutgers but my father was a lifelong Jerseyan who sent 3 kids and 1 grandchild to Rutgers and was the biggest RU supporter you could have. We didn't get to enjoy as many wins as we wanted but I have decades of memories of going to games with him and living and dying with every bricked foul shot or blown coverage. In my head I can still hear him saying in an exasperated way, "They can't shoot!!" I always liked to think that I had my obsessive fandom in proper perspective but over the last year I realized that for reasons that weren't always obvious to me it has meant more than I really thought.

I’ll cry for sure. I had season tickets with the my Dad since 1982 up until two years ago. My Dad is still alive, but doesn’t have his memory any more. I wish he could understand what was happening. The happiest moments of my life with my Dad were spent at the RAC.

When the RU gridders upset Louisville in 2006, I didn't storm the field like many. Instead, I was overcome with emotion and sat in my seat enjoying the celebration with tears of joy in my eyes.

Hence, I'm almost certain I will shed a few tears on Sunday when Rutgers' name finally appears on the big board for the dance.

Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes rank among my all-time favorite bands. I hereby declare It's Been a Long Time as Rutgers basketball's official song on Selection Sunday. Appropriately, the song was released in 1991.

It's been a long time since we laughed together
It's been a long time since we cried
Raise your glass for the comrades we've lost

My friend it's been a long, long time

We never quite fit, baby, we never played the game
Came out explodin' like a runaway train
Up all night talkin' about dreams of better days
Ain't it funny how some things don't change?

No tears, but definitely a bit emotional. A long climb and last year's cancellation felt like a bit of a hex. Still scared that COVID might give us the RU Screw, so I won't be relieved until the brackets are released. TBH, football going bowling was a bigger thing for me. So many times we were so close to the Big Dance & even got glimpses at the NIT so it was bound to break eventually once we got competent leadership. Glad to have Hobbs & Pike. Things are really looking up.

I was a SHU fan growing up for the same reason. Going to Walsh was like MSG for us kids.

Lost both of my parents. They were so proud of me graduating from RU. After my dad died my wife said we need a tradition so..... First it was RU season tickets for football, then occasional RU basketball games. My fathers words ring out in my mind. ā€œBeing a true fan means sticking with your team thru good times and bad. You will remember the good times more than the bad and you certainly will appreciate them.ā€ Sunday I will raise a class to my mom and dad. As was previously stated I am comforted knowing they have the best seats in the house.

I was emotional last season and having the tournament canceled crushed me like I'm sure it did for most of you. This season not as emotional but just so excited to finally see RU in the bracket. I'm relatively young compared to some posters but my whole life RU has been poor and I've never seen them in the tournament. But my first memory of RU basketball was my dad taking me to the NIT final at MSG back in '04 I believe, and I can't wait to hopefully share the moment with my father in Indy.

This doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. Anyone who has been lifelong committed to this program should take your opinions/thoughts with an asterisk because of this. Like a PSU football fan.

I lost my uncle in January 2016, he had been bringing me to games my whole life and is the reason I am a diehard RU fan. With this moment finally being realized and the fact that the ticket office worked it out for me to get my season tickets back, i will for sure be a bit emotional come sunday night

I'm excited, happy for this team. I take RU very seriously, and have alot of pride in RU and high expectations for our school. Hope I don't ever get to the point of crying over them.

I was at the Navy game in 05 when they clinched a bowl game and never saw so many grown men crying (happy tears). Louisville 06 was the pinnacle moment for most RU fans, but Navy 05 was when I realized that a lot of fans had seen "hope" for the first time in decades.
