Well Iowa hit 16 threes a 39 point difference from our feeble performance. Plus Nebraska shot close to their averages too.

Did not watch the game, just noticing the obvious difference in results
Even if half those threes were twos, they win easily

And Nebraska had a thirty point lead on us

But Pike just told me on his weekly presser how well they are playing and if the season had another month to go they might be in the mix! Then again he reiterated that we have good shooters on our team you just can't expect every shot to go in. Amazing that he gets away with that stuff. LOL!

Minnesota was playing at a high level at the beginning of league competition defeating teams at home.

Minnesota lost to Michigan 82-57 and then turned around and beat them, 10 days later, 75-57. That is a difference (-25 to +18) of 43 points. I'll adjust for home court advantage and call it 39 points.

Don't underestimate variance.

I saw the Iowa game against Nebraska. Iowa put on a clinic on offense. They move the ball around and pass beautifully.

You’re overstating things. Leave it at they are better than us. What better measure than head-to-head competition?

Well a 25/26/23 game season is actually a much better measure than a couple head-to-head games.

I don't know what your definition of "way" better is but they would both be favored to 7.5-8 points against us on a neutral court.

Who knows. Iowa is good. Nebraska was the trap game of all trap games for us. Coming off a big win pkaying the worst team in the league. I am sure McCarffery showed our game clips to his team as a warning to what happens when you take a team lightly or don’t come out ready to play.

When you play in a league with an unbalanced schedule where every team does not play every other team twice, I’ll go with head-to-head results. Rutgers strength of schedule is terrific and we have better than OK results. When we shoot the ball with even modest success, we can compete with most teams. We’ve proven that with both Iowa and Illinois.

I've looking at schedule adjusted stuff not just comparing records or whatever lol. We are a pretty good team and on a good night can definitely compete with those teams but we're not on the same level and I think you know that. If we were, we wouldn't be thinking about needing to beat Minnesota on Saturday while Illinois fights for a #1 seed.

Also, even if we DID just go by head to head results Iowa beat us by a total of 15 in 2 games which matches the 7.5 points better that I said above.

Well when you have a guy like Bohannon pulling up from 30’ and hitting 3’s it’s almost impossible to stay in the game. Oh and Garza’s not too bad as well.

Key to Iowa are Weiskampf and Bohannon, especially with Fredrick injured much of the year. If either or both of those guys are hitting, watch out. You know Garza is almost always going to score. The heavy use of the three-point shot these days can account for a wide variance in scores. Obviously, if you hit anything close to 40 percent of them you can blow someone away on a given night. Slump into the 20 or low 30 percent range and it's another story. More B1G teams than usual have quality big men this year, so some can compete in games where they're not hitting the outside shot, but that's a tough row to hoe.

This is 100% false. Every single year good teams have WTF losses. Every single year really good teams have WTF losses. For example Michigan lost to Minnesota by 18 and illinois lost to us. Since we are not a good team you have to assume losing to us is a WTF loss
#19 Rutgers beat #11 Illinois and #23 Minny beat #7 Mich. so they were hardly WTF losses.

Agree...some teams have a better killer instinct than others but it's completely false that every good team always puts a worse team to bed

The difference is that Iowa consistently shoots the ball well. RU does not. Plus, they have a reliable low post option for when the perimeter shots aren't falling. RU does not.

not if you believe that our team sucks like some people do.... you can’t have it both ways. If you think Rutgers is a bad team than you have to acknowledge that good teams like Illinois don’t always put bad(Rutgers) teams away.

But Rutgers wasn't a bad team then. (Not saying they are now) . They were playing lights out hence the ranking that reached #11 shortly after. .
