Let me start off by saying I’m a pike guy! So this discussion is not about how he’s doing currently.

IF: If this is Pikes limit due to lack of offense or ability to take recruiting to the next level, eventually, the time will come where we will all want to move on (some of you already are. Lol).

What level coach considers us now? Basically a bubble team for the next few years (great for some of us, for now), obviously all that Rutgers has to offer in terms of recruiting...who takes us past that?

I’ve seen the mentions of Rick Pitino and coaches of his stature. I think Rick would come here as someone said in another thread. Not so much cause Rutgers is so attractive to coaches, but because of many other factors, competition, chance to play against your son, expectations, etc.

I personally wouldn’t hire him to RU because of the history of RU’s hires and the media. Lol.

1) pike is getting an absolute minimum of 2 more years if we DONT make the tourney at all
2) pike gets MINIMUM 3 more years if we make the tourney this year

With that said, I’ll play the hypothetical game. Keep in mind Hobbs has shown hes okay with paying a basketball coach $3.75/mill a year as thats pikes salary in the last year of his contract. That is a top 15 salary in america, so the pool would be huge.

Current power coaches with jersey ties who we MAY be able to get now that we have a new facility and $$$: either hurley, kevin willard. Doubtful of willard or danny. Bobby we could have tomorrow if we wanted him.

Non-sexy realistic hires-

1) Tod Kowalczyk- Toledo. Rutgers assistant 1997-2000, runs a great offensive system which is highly rated, hes about to win the MAC west division for the 3rd time in 4 years and this year will probably dance.

#1 Target:

Mike Boynton- Oklahoma State Head Coach. 39 years old from Brooklyn, guy has JUICEEEEE. Is really coming into his own as a head coach after being thrown into the fire when Brad Underwood left. He would recruit like a mad man here and he would really keep kids in line and not let kids be babies.

Think I saw this mentioned in some other thread, but I think Pike is our coach going forward. If we had just one guy that could shoot consistently on this team, we'd have at least 2 more wins right now and would be talking about how happy we are with him as our coach.

Any and all talk of Pikiell being let go or fired after this season is absurd.

You guys need to focus on where we were, and where we are now. We haven't made a tourney since 1991, and now we are in the mix 2 consecutive seasons, and suddenly that's not enough for people?

I'm embarrassed for our fan base if this is truly the prevailing sentiment.

Agreed..its almost lunacy that multiple threads on coaching changes given where we sit

Amen. WTF am I doing reading this nonsense? The first coach in 30 years to lead us to the precipice of NCAA berth and I'm reading people talk about replacing him with Rick Pitino or Kevin Bannon's #1 assistant during the strip free throw contest. Good Lord.

I think the general thought process behind the post is this:
1. It is becoming a possibility that Pike may not make the tournament this year. If he doesn't,
2. We are losing JY, Geo, and possibly Myles. Which means
3. Next years team is not going to be as good, will not be making the tournament.
If Pike doesn't make the tournament this year or next, at some point it will get very hard to convince kids to come here or maybe even stay here. Thus losing his job. I agree that we are a couple of years from that, but I feel that is more likely than next year making the tournament.

I read the first 3 sentences.
I doubt rutgers will choose to move on if pike performs like this . This is hall of fame territory

This post literally had nothing to do with Coach being fired..lol. I literally said what this post was about.
When Pike got hired, people debated HOW ATTRACTIVE the job was.

So I wondered how ATTRACTIVE THE JOB IS NOW. I have ZERO problem with anyone who doesnt want to discuss this. It's a free world.

But please, either stay on topic, or scroll by. Simple.

I agree mostly . But if Rick pitino wanted to come here tonight , he should be at the team breakfast tomorrow.

So what you're saying is, you don't know who would come here IF this is the PEAK for Pike? Thank you for your response.

Interesting, thanks for the response. I haven't followed the bigger NCAA picture outside of the Big Ten in the last 5 years. Still rooting for Pike myself, but, I HOPE Hobbs is hiring the "next" basketbull guy IF/when Pikes days are done here.

I think we are Primed to be that school that controls NE NCAA BBALL. Whether it's Pike or whoever is next.

Just because the bar was buried doesnt make mediocrity acceptable. Ive said for years and others believe the same that what pike brings us is a high floor but super low ceiling. This is our ceiling with him imo

While I agree with you on your point here. You have the most scarlet colored glasses I've ever seen. And the amount of money you have wasted when you'd chase a bad basketball program around the country to see games was just a poor choice. So while I agree he shouldn't be fired or let go. There may be a time that comes where a bigger fish than pike may want to coach here.
Ok...not sure where this is coming from, but obviously you can't possibly comprehend the value in what my wife and I have done in support of Rutgers Basketball over the past 25 years. Maybe ask a few people that matter, but I'll tell you I'd have done it no other way.

Since you could never hope to understand, I'll give you a pass on this one...

The worst take of all on a ridiculously horrendous thread. How BK spends his time and money, and what he values as entertainment is surely none of your damn business.

Pike should have hired Maconnell's kid(Princeton assistant) after he interviewed him. It least we would have run an offense with movement and had some strong backdoor cuts.

Pretty sure Princeton doesn’t run the Princeton offense anymore

To add to this - we were one of the worst D1 programs in all of college basketball not far from 5 years ago.

The turnaround and build that Pikiell has done since 2016 is nothing short of remarkable.

That’s not to say I don’t want to keep seeing improvements or won’t be disappointed if we don’t make the tournament this year but the Pikiell bashing by some is pretty ridiculous.
Unfortunately success brings with it a lot of new fans, some of them who are clueless or just trolls.

I’m down on Pike and the team this week, but one win will change everything. If we tank the last three games we will have to consider he may not be the answer, esp if there’s a mass exodus. But this convo is ten days too early to have.

1st thing Princeton did after pulling Wilson's name off of things was to remove all the backdoor references too.

We are about to get in the NCAA tournament back to back for the first time in 45 years !!!

I don’t know why this irks me so much but it does every time I see it.

I don’t care if we went 30-0 last year, there was no tournament, no field selected, we didn’t make anything.

(This has nothing to do with Pikiell btw, he should get credit for a tournament quality season last year.)
