Do you take a chance on Jaden

I was having a convo with someone recently who was talking about RU’s recent slump and he brought up an interesting question. With our lack of offense and terrible shooting, should Pike roll with Jaden Jones for some scoring? I’ve been told he’s probably one of the better offensive players on the team and can score from three levels. He might not know all of the plays and he may hurt on defense (I don’t think so though), but is the trade off worth it? Could he provide a spark? He won’t be flashy and it may take some time to feel confident but he might be able to out the ball through the hoop. What would you do?

no. why would you waste him for 5 games? It is important not to panic and play the long game. Our program has been in this situation before and succeed. he is much more valuable to us in over the next 4 years than he is now.

Waste him?

Not saying he should play but what does waste him mean?

I think Jones is a very talented scorer who should develop into a nice player, but I don’t think rolling out a 17 year old kid who has played all of about a minute of college ball up until now is going to provide much of an upside on either end of the floor.

He should play if he's ready and not if he's not. Since he hasn't played so far I'm assuming he's not.

Which is why we are playing a guy who continually drives to the basket with his head down and rarely gets good results. 🤨
mind-boggling, isn't it? I thought he had learned his lesson last year.. because he finished so strong. And very early this year he was dishing off drives... just damned confusing. Maybe he does need to see the bench full time... which would cost us his defense... but damn.

If he’s not ready to play we should’ve used a scholarship on someone who could help this year instead of playing reiber mag and palmquist sparingly in early conference play hurt us big time imo

I’m in the Minority here ...but IF he is not an absolute disaster on defense...I would try to find a four minute first half shift for him in the next three games as an audition ....
Ohio State is giving a high school grad reclass minutes. If they can and if Jones can provide meaningful minutes - why not? Maybe it ll motivate the team and Jones can contribute.

The way this season started out, I thought we’d have safe enough leads during a few games (not garbage time) to give some of the frosh a run here and there. Pretty tough to do now with so much riding on every contest.

Still, if he can defend and take care of the ball, I wouldn’t have a problem giving Jones some floor time. If he can score then all the better.

I think we should give him some minutes esp to get a feel for the game thinking for the long term. We don’t exactly know who is coming back next year just yet and would be good to use him to get the flow down.
Clearly this can be limited minutes but have a short mindset on minutes.
