At some point you just have to decisively beat teams compared to which you are markedly better. Home or away. Night or day. Period.

RU has so much more talent than either of these teams - it’s not close actually - that they have to take care of business and dispatch of these two without drama.

Anything less would be a problem and a loss to either could be disastrous.

Last thought on this game: could someone please get #45 a new pair of shorts?

Don’t like the way Nebraska plays. They have a couple talented offensive players but it’s all hero ball. Guess when they are hot they can cause problems for teams, but can just as quickly shoot themselves out of games.

I thought Nebraska was playing a very physical brand of basketball until it got away from them at the end. Scott Frost would have been proud. Talent wise they did not show much beyond a lot of effort and I am not sure I saw the new big guy on the floor. If Maryland did not have so many TO's the game would not have been close. We are better than both but that guarantees us nothing.

I hope RU can win its last 4 to finish with at least 12 conference wins. Can be done if a few of our guys can get out of their shooting slumps, even a little bit, with the defense it is back to playing.

Walker of Nebraska only played a few minutes and not at all in the second half. He plays a tough center. The Coach said after the game that he was not feeling well. Nebraska didn't look nearly as well as they did against penn state and Illinois.

I was wondering about Walker. Nebraska looks completely different to me when he plays.

Both teams stink.Their offenses are based on dribble drives and a few wide open 3 point shots,Long scoring droughts and turnovers were the norm except for the first few minutes of the game.Rutgers should defeat both teams easily if they demonstrate some semblance of consistent scoring.

Maryland isn't having a great year, but I don't think they are much less-talented than Rutgers. The difference is that Maryland has an incomplete roster. While Rutgers has some good bigs, Maryland was hurt by the early departures of Bruno Fernando and then Jalen Smith, and the sudden loss of the Mitchell brothers, who were not good locker room guys. They just don't anybody who can really do that job.

I saw where Jalen Smith was just sent to the G League. He still made the right move being the 10th pick even if the jury is still out on him. Turgeon had to have a pretty good idea he was leaving right? Not familiar with the Mitchell brothers were they bigs that were supposed to replace Smith?

Yeah, it always makes a college fan feel funny when somebody leaves early and then gets farmed out to the development league. But like you said, it would be wrong not to encourage a kid like Smith to move on when there is a 19M contract awaiting him. It seems like it's been 5-6 years in a row that a kid has left Maryland after two years. They're all still playing, but only Kevin Huerter (would have been a senior last year) has really excelled so far in the NBA. It's tough for a non-blue blood program to sustain a high level of success with that kind of talent drain, although, as you said, at least some of those departures were not a surprise (Huerter was).

One of the Mitchell brothers was very good, and the other probably as good as what they have at that role now. Next year they have good big coming in from Baltimore. His sister, Angel Reese, was the #2 womens recruit and already plays for the lady Terrapins (although has been out since December 4 and will be back in a few weeks from what I hear).

Good luck to Rutgers; I think they are equipped to win some NCAAT games and I will be pulling for them...

If this team plays the way they were in the beginning of the season, they should have an excellent chance to win out after Michigan.
That said, I have no idea if they can generate that same kind of play.

Maryland has plenty of talent and players....it's not Top 3 in the B1G talent like last year, but it's not bottom 5 talent in the league either.

Barring something unforseen, they at a minimum should be 9-11 overall.....they're 6-9 with another Nebraska game, Michigan State, at Northwestern and PSU along with their visit to the RAC Sunday. They would be potentially going from 14-6 in the B1G last year to 10-10 or 9-11.....yes a 4 to 5 game drop-off in league standings is huge in perception, but if they got to 10-10 in the B1G, Turgeon would likely survive another season.

Saw Makhel Mitchell play last night in their victory against
Dayton. He's averaging 10 and 6 in 22 minutes a game (last
night 16 and 12). Maryland could use him for sure

Yeah, and his injured brother Makhi (4 star) was considered to be even better than Makhel (3 star). But you have to put up with their mom, who is all about the Mitchells. It probably not a problem at Rhode Island, since they are so important there, but it was not a good situation last year when they were reserves at Maryland. There were a few scuffles at practice, leading to their ouster...
