I view it as a more difficult job than Rutgers when Steve took over. No one cares about hoops there, the facilities are circa 1980 and it is an awful Conference fit. Here is how it should play out:

Flirt with Beilein and Tommy. Both say no.Beilein does not want a rebuild. Tommy has a better job.

It comes down to Howard Eisley,Mark Schmidt and James Jones. Too tough to call at that juncture, but 2 of them are BC grads.

Is the thinking that Beilein will get back in for next year? He has had success everywhere he has been. Except of course the NBA. Not sure what he was thinking there. While not a great situation for us, Penn State should be all over him. Although JB will be patient and have his pick of jobs.

Schmidt has done a nice job at St. Bonaventure. Is he the other BC grad besides Eisely?

It’s still a power 5 job and a name school. More so than Rutgers was and frankly still is. They’ll get someone decent.

Why would he go to weak schools like BC or Penn State.

He will get 10x better offers in the next 2 years

Schmidt is the obvious choice. Another great choice would be Seton Hall’s Kevin Willard.

Willard is not taking BC. He and Beilein will have many offers next season among:
Northwestern
Georgetown
Maryland
Georgia
ND
Arizona
Northwestern
Syracuse
LSU
Wichita State

Boeheim won’t retire until his son graduates and Collins isn’t going anywhere for year no matter how bad Northwestern is

James Jones feels like a good hire. They need a coach that can win with 150-300 ranked kids and has a track record for developing players ...

Given that he is 68 now, if Beilein is getting back in I would assume he is taking a job this year. That was quite a list of potential openings 72 had. Think Brey is done at ND? Is this Ewing's third year? Would seem a little quick to dump him given his status at Georgetown. Doesn't feel like Crean has been at Georgia too long either.

The Willard, Beilein and Ewing suggestions for this job are ridiculous. They would all be leaving better basketball jobs for that. Beilein would get huge offers from bigger schools. Seton Hall and G-town are better hoops jobs than BC.

The no brainer is the other JB, no not Jimmy Buffett but John Becker. Proven winner at Vermont. Just like Pike.

That’s one of the worst P5 jobs there is. They need an up and coming coach from a lower conference or a re-tread who has fallen out of favor.

Many of these guys are going to hold out for ND. They are completely off the BB radar at this point and Brey has had so many chances to make a run at it and fallen short that he needs to go. Actually surprised he has hung in this long. He’s toast.

BC's last NCAA bid was 2008-09, Al Skinner as HC.
2 winning seasons, both NITs, in the last 12 seasons since their last NCAA bid.

That is what I was thinking, or maybe they could throw money to the Winthrop coach from Ohio, Pat Kelsey, or Richmond coach from Pennsylvania, Chris Mooney. Any of the 3 would be solid choices.

BC Hoops is third fiddle behind BC Football and BC Ice Hockey. Good luck convincing a P5 assistant or BE HC to go there.

I'm always leery of mid-major guys who didn't build their mid-major programs from the ground up taking rebuild jobs, but they don't seem to do worse overall than those who did a build at the mid-major level. Butch Jones, Stan Heath, Dino Babers come to mind.

No he isn't----he'll get another year.

We won 15 games last season-----wasn't a terrible year and he had Final 8 runs in 2015 and 2016 which have built him enough equity to get the 2022 season .

We're not a place that really cares about hoops that much and while it likely isn't as tough a job as BC it's close.

What are you smoking? Bc is a better job than ru? Were you in a coma for the building of our basketball facility or are you just one of those self loathing rutgers fans with his head in a hole?
I’ll say it again - 10 NCAA appearances since 1991. I’ll add that they’ve been to the NIT more recently as well.

It's one thing to add in a dose of reality to conversation, but this isn't that. He's just flat out wrong in every way.

I'll say it again. Who. Cares. If both jobs were open this offseason, the ru job garners more interest. And that's not debatable.
Now you are adding another set of variables. I never said if both vacancies were open this year that RU wouldnt garner more interest. People are saying no one is interested in BC job and it’s terrible. However, if you compare BC’s current opening to ours of a few years ago, BC is more desirable flat out. And that’s not debatable.

It’s not even close. The Northeast basketball schools in the ACC are a collective devalued stock. They are out of place afterthoughts (even traditional powers like Syracuse) in a basketball first conference controlled by Tobacco land schools.

Meanwhile the complete opposite can be argued of RU’s basketball program stock since joining the BIG. First of all, midwest BIG basketball doesn’t have nearly the same cultural appeal as the reason for picking the conference (football, yes, but even there, RU and Maryland joined a quietly grateful Penn State who no longer stands as an island. Despite what Purdue and Nebraska fans may think, the fit is there and the additions added national appeal to the conference).

Second - and far more important, is the sky rocketed relative appeal of staying home and playing regularly in front of family and friends for a big time conference. Remember - in the BE, whatever school you went to a local recruit knew they’d get to play plenty of games at the garden and come home for games against RU, Seton Hall, SJU, UConn and Nova (all drivable locations for fans). In the BIG that’s not the case. Huge factor.

You literally have no idea what you're talking about....the BC job was open 6 years ago....who did they hire??? Jim Christian???

If everything you said was true about NCAA appearances and NIT vs RU, and BC is in the ACC, then why did BC hire Jim Christian??.....why wasn't that job more desirable 6 years ago if that's the best hire they could have made??? LMAO

Sometimes people say things trying to sound smart, with literally nothing to support their argument. He won 26 ACC games in 6 seasons....do I have to do the math for you to know that's not quite enough wins...??.....He had 94 ACC losses.....NINETY FOUR in 6 seasons.

So let me guess what list of candidates BC is going to come up with 6 years after they hired Jim Christian, but BC is a better job than RU.....?? LOL

RU as a complete dumpster fire after Eddie Jordan, Mike Rice and FHJ, still had better candidates interview once Jordan was fired than BC could even dream of interviewing or showing interest.

NIT and NCAA appearances mean absolutely nothing based on what happened in the old Big East. You have to evaluate the job on where it is today and where it sat 6 years ago in the ACC.....not what BC was in the late 90s.....

In an ideal world pikiell gets poached and we get beilien. At his age im assuming he and his family would enjoy our proximity to everything
