Serious discussion. Should Ron keep starting?

We are playing 4 on 5, basically. His Defense is slow, lumbering. No confidence in shot. Missing bunnies.

Who else we got ? No other “4” like him on the team.

Do we live or die with him?

I say:
MYLES
BAKER
MCCONNELL
PAUL
MATHIS

The team is offensively challenged which means Harper has to start and hope he gets out of the shooting slump.

Mathis is averaging 4.9 pts over his last 9 games. Not sure that’s the move to make. Still think we live and die by Harper — IF (and at this point, that is a big if) he can regain some of his early season form, we pose a legitimate threat to anyone come March. Without him our ceiling is certainly capped

Start Myles and Riebs at the 4. Let the offense run through geo and the two big men can defend and grab boards. Right now Ron does nothing well.

If we had a viable replacement yes, just for a bit while he gets right. Not sure we do in reality though. Would probably be forced to go small with something like Geo-Young-Paul-McConnell-Johnson due to the front court fouls. Not sure that’s going to be much better for us.

You can’t get out of a slump if you’re on the bench. They need to keep playing him. He’s leaving his 3 pointers just short. And it wasn’t like he didn’t defend Wieskamp. Those were all well contested shots that he made in the second half.

No... God no.... We need scoring.... Not fouling. You can go smaller with Baker Mulcahy McConnell Young and Johnson. Rotate Harper in.

RHJ has also missed more monstrous dunks than i care to remember...

However when he's on he money...and we can use all the capital we can get.

Start him.

unfortunately there is no one else...Pike didnt recruit a 4 so Harper has to play major minutes. He needs to get his *** in gear. Its not about shooting, its about all the other things

Mathis? You’ve got to be kidding. He’s been the worst player in the rotation by a mile.

See above. Harper has done absolutely nothing and the guy above is blaming Mathis. SMH! Mathis gets batted around like a pinball machine.

When Harper doesn't score, he pouts, is slow, commits bad fouls and doesn't block out. He stands around at the three point line. No hustle.

Time to start Young in his spot. Let Geo be point and Young drive or shoot. Harper has hurt us for a month. Let him come off bench for Offense.

If Young was doing this, this board would kill him

He has obviously struggled but the stating 5 plays well together. Not sure who would replace him.

I picked him as an all B1G wing before the season started.
If he plays like one we’re a sweet 16 level team.
He really ran the floor well at one time.
The only way to describe him now is slow and lumbering

Something's off. I really don't think he's giving 100%, easy to say after a few plays but I've seen enough over the last several games.

Honestly, I'm actually starting to worry about the kid. The isolation might be getting to him.

Ron gives us the ability to beat any team in the country on any given night. You start him every game and limit his minutes if he isn’t playing well.
Would like to see him just spend the early part of the game going to work on the interior to get him going. Even tonight, he had some success when they got him the ball in the paint. The outside shot just has not been there for him, and he had some really bad misses from 3 tonight.

Ron is a baller, so take the following as merely an observation, but I suspect that the extra weight he carries has caused an excessive physical toll, as well as impacted his endurance. His shots seem to be increasingly short with less arc. Again...just an observation, without any knowledge of what sort of nutrition and S&C support the team receives.

Yeah this is one of the things that baffles me, in 2020 he was relishing the opportunity to finish through contact and flex his biceps. Now he wants no part of it. I'm glad he has a great 12 ft fallaway but the team needs guys who can get to the rim to keep the offense flowing, and he's gotta be one of them.

Yes, Ron of course needs to continue to start. This team isn’t reaching its ceiling unless he finds his shot.

It’s more than his shot. He needs to hook up with a serious trainer in the off season. I’m sure his dad could get that done rather easily.

Well, things have changed. As Pike pointed out, now he's top of the list on every team's scouting report. After his hot start, he's been getting a ton of extra attention, the best defenders on every team against him and such. He has to work through it and find a new level where he can still get his with all this attention on him. I honestly think half the problem is that Geo was a bit off for much of the season as well, so the extra attention away from him hasn't cost the opponents anything. If someone else could punish the opponent for focusing on Ron, then things would loosen up. This will work itself out. Hopefully they adjust and start scoring again, because the shot percentages are like they were three years ago.

Picking up on your last point, I just wish Geo would take over and take 20 shots a game. He hits 2 in a row and either stops shooting or misses one and stops shooting. Geo can pull up for the 13-16 mid range jumper all day. Once he beats his guy and shoots over him , he will garner more attention freeing someone else up , maybe Caleb maybe Ron. Ron used to be a smart instinctive player and that has all disappeared. He doesn’t get the ball and attack. He gets the ball, holds it a second, thinks about what he wants to do . It is ruining him. He is playing lazy or if in fact he is not, it looks like he is playing lazy, hanging at the three point line and not hitting the offensive glass or getting down low on the block. He doesn’t even attempt to box out or get rebounds . He used to be an elite defender , used to block shots, used to fly for dunks. It has all disappeared. It started the day he was named to the Wooden Award list and it has been a curse.

Hobbs get the Rutgers-Newark AD on the phone ASAP. Payment of 10 dozen ProV1X, 6 dozen popcorn supporting autism, tons of Rutgers gear with Nike on it (old stuff) and we will provide transportation and supply officials.

worked for Young last year. Get Harper and Caleb (shooting only) on track and get minutes for freshman.

Do IT!

I think we sit Harper. At least the first couple minutes. He may be feeling pressure. But when things aint working, its time to try something else.

It may light a fire. You never know.

Baker has come around. No reason Harper can't follow soon. Plenty of season left. $$$$
Baker once healed came around when his intensity stepped up. He's hustling out there and his defense has responded in kind. Harper loafs around the court. Watch him away from the ball on O, he just stands there. Now I don't know basketball X's and O's but it's got to be a lot easier to guard a stationary target. On the defensive end he's just lackadaisical. It's almost like he expects everything to come to him without effort.

No, it's the transponders. You have to take them out, turn them around, and put them back in. It's that simple.
