It just seems to me that whenever our BB or FB team has a number next to them, the floor opens up and away we go!
I would be very happy to see us out of the top 25 until the end of the season. With our history, the burden of being ranked just seems to get in the way of winning.

I don’t understand why you didn’t post this during the 5 game losing streak but instead post it now, during a 3 game win streak that includes two road wins?

That’s crap. We started the season ranked. Didn’t lay an egg in non-conference. Hang on for double digit win against Cuse. Beat Maryland on the road. Beat Illinois. Started 3-0 in conference. All while being ranked.

The team got used to not having to play constant, in your face defense to win. The shots were falling. Then suddenly they weren’t. We were completely lost and couldn’t seem to adjust. It took time to find our way. The injuries to Cliff and RHJ didn’t help. But then we got back a solid defender in Caleb who is a versatile player and made it possible to play a broader range of defensive sets. As he found his legs and everyone else got healthy, we seemed to settle in on defense to get back on track. Then suddenly we start out the NW game with cant miss shooting. We fall back into our old ways letting an offensively challenged team find rhythm and score 18 in a hurry. But this time instead of hoping our shot would come back (which it didn’t), we relied on the defense to gut out the win.

Not sure how any of this had anything to do with rankings?

I think i did...team caught up in their clippings
I think it was partially true but more that they thought they could beat you with offense and great shooting and didn’t have to play elite defense , rebound or block shots like we did last year. That has now returned. If we get ranked next week or the week after , think they learned their lesson and will play well as a ranked team ( Hope so, plenty of seniors and juniors ).

Effort went. I can’t think of a better explanation than the press clippings.

I suppose you can argue Harper, Baker and Young injuries.

In my opinion the order of importance for the injuries were:
1. Cliff:: without Cliff Myles played tentatively. He was a shell of himself. Knew there was no one behind to give him a blow or if he got into foul trouble

2. Harper:: Star that stirs it all. Such a weapon on both ends. Just rounding into shape.

3. Geo Originally was thinking Young. But Geo back at the point has proven why he is so important to the team. Its great to see him using his legs again

4. Young Not a knock on him just can be covered over with other pieces

but the only way to stay out of the top 25 isto not win too much.. which seems like it contradicts your goal..

In reply to #1 the OSU game plus Cliff is what made Myles play tentatively till Cliff came back but the reffing in the OSU game just completely destroyed him and I don’t blame that was agregious

Rather we start ranked and end higher ranked...Anything else doesn't make any damn sense to hope for.

BTW- what gets ranked and in the tourny this year? It looks like we could finish the year 6-2(realistic but we could always go back into another slump)
that puts us 12-8 Conference and 16-8 season. maybe 11-9/15-9 if we do 5-3
Do either of these records either have us ranked or in the tourny?

11-9 is a total lock for the tourney. 10-10 is a virtual lock.

Yeah was just being conservative to ease yesrutgers into it haha. I think at 10-10, unless we win the 4 easiest games by 1 point and lose the other 4 and a first round conf tourney game by 40 points each, and everything else goes wrong with other bids, we’re in. Probably even then.

I was trying to be somewhat optimistic as 6 of the last 8 are winnable. 2 games are almost certain losses. Wasn’t sure about the conf tournament but would 14 wins really get us in depending on our CT? I am far from a BB expert so have no idea what it would take.

If they win 5 more games to get to 15 wins they’d likely be a 6 or 7 seed in the tourney. 4 more wins is still a near lock, since at 10-10 in conference play we’d likely be no worse than 8th or 9th place in a conference many are saying could get 10 teams in.

Why? So we can lose at Iowa and get knocked out again? Let's not get ranked and go into Iowa with a chip on our shoulder. Let them rank us if we beat them.

I mean really it was just a throwback joke to last year but I do believe we deserve to be ranked.

I prefer we are not ranked yet. We don't need any extra pressure. I keep saying to just take one game at a time. It will be best to be ranked at the end of the season. We got to # 11 before and than we lost 5 in a row. We just need to keep focused and keep working and good things will happen.

You can think whatever you want about the benefits of being over/underranked, but the bottom line is the team deserves to be ranked.

Also they won a bunch of games while ranked to make it to #11 in the first place, it's not like being ranked #21 preseason was some death knell.
