Way too many to get it down to 5. Best team we played was the 1991 defending champs Larry Johnson UNLV team that destroyed our last team to play in the tournament. That game was nationally televised on ABC .

I was at that game. UNLV was an awesome team that could play all aspects of the game. Shoot from the outside. Go inside. Play great defense.......

Best of Luck,
Groz

Mark, I was at the game, too. My first trip to Las Vegas. I've been back about 20x since. 🙂

We are coming up on the 30th anniversary of that game... Feb. 3, 1991.

Re: impressive frosh that played at the RAC and looked the part even as pups, two come to mind: Jameer Nelson at Joe's and Gary Neal at La Salle.
Good call on Nelson. Another guy that blew me away - although maybe not a freshman- was Kemba Walker. Similar to Nelson.

I'm sure I make spelling errors also, but his name is Chris Mullin, with an I, not an E. What a player......

Best of Luck,

Great player but I saw him speak at a fundraiser a few years ago and he had to be the worst public speaker I‘ve ever seen. I thought he would be doomed as the St. John’s coach.... and he was.

Rutgers vs North Carolina Madison Square Garden 1981-82 season. Jordan's freshman year. I think he had something like 13 points that game but Worthy and Perkins killed us. We lost by 25 I think
We led at half and then couldn't hit anything in the second. Princeton-Ohio State was the first game of the doublheader.

He took them to the tournament and then resigned after that game. Obviously a double standard . You wouldn’t call a rutgers coach that actually coached in a tournament game “doomed”

I was just shocked by his inability to speak in public. Seems like an essential requirement for success in that job. Also, if you dislike public speaking, coaching a D1 team is not the right thing for you. That’s why I thought he wouldn’t last.

Not all time great, just great against us (or at least dunks on us that were memorable, unfortunately)

Rickey Green from the 76 Michigan team had a long NBA career. Phil Hubbard, also.
Junior Bridgeman from Louisville in 75

Stuart Gray-UCLA (just kidding)

Fortson was a BEAST in college. Totally forgot about that dude. I loved so many of those beast college PFs back in the day. Corliss comes to mind. But my favorite was Gary Trent from Ohio U... Shaq Of The Mac they called him! Beast!!!

Macon seemed better as a freshman than as a senior. I think he got to two elite eights . Chaney had a ridiculous losing record in the elite eight

Great freshman season with excellent teammates like Tim Perry and Ramon Rivas but he slipped big time after that. Shooting percentage dropped like a stone.
i believe that team was ranked #1 at some point during the season. I always thought it was on Chaney that Macon didn’t develop. He had no offensive system at all and Macon was left to jack up shots at the end of the possession.

I have been at the RAC every year since it opened and I think Mark Macon was the most talented freshman we ever played there. Chaney did a terrible job developing him. Chris Mullen also made quite the immediate impression.
Yeah but Hodge can't read.

Special shout out to Troy Murphy when the RAC crowd absolutely got into his head his senior year at the RAC.

Patrick Ewing never played against Rutgers?
I'm pretty sure the two schools didn't play each other after the '79 NCAAs until Rutgers' first season in the BE in 1995-96. So no Alonzo Mourning or Dikembe Mutombo, either...or other Gtwn greats from the 80s.
