There is a small margin for error in a power conference with parity among many teams.Uconn will be a problem in recruiting for Rutgers and Seton Hall now that they are members of the Big East.

meanwhile in the NET we are languishing at 44 behind even Penn State!

I remain stunned that knowledge posters don't view UConn and Seton Hall as primary recruiting rivals and Nova as a thorn in the side. UConn has loads of cache, as does Danny. More importantly, local kids want to play in even this iteration of the Big East with a tourney in March at coveted MSG. I get that the recruiting space is national and hence not purely local, but the real bread and butter recruiting wise will be made in the metropolitan area.

Pretty terrible, surprised to see we’re even still getting votes in the AP poll. Hopefully getting booted from the Top 25 serves as a wake up call.

Can’t believe anyone still voted for us. Didn’t even make Jerry CaSHUno’s poll

I don't understand NET. In all columns of the NET ranking that I saw, Rutgers is better than both Penn State and Maryland, but Rutgers is ranked lower than both.

I can understand Maryland rising, with two (now) very impressive road victories, but I have no idea how Penn State basketball could be in any top 50 ranking done in any way by any system...

We are still # 24 today in the CBS 25 plus one rankings. I didn't even expect that at all. Maybe we will play better since we are out of the AP poll where we are now # 32.

Actually surprised we are still receiving 46 votes in the AP Poll (basically #31). We couldn't have looked much worse and essentially dropped 16 spots. Right now, I'm more worried about at which game the bleeding might stop. Wisconsin, then @Indiana, then Michigan State. We always play Wisconsin tough but I could see us scoring about 30 total points in that game also.

not sure if effiency is part of the net this year. RU took a tragic tumble after the Michigan State abomination so it might factor in

It was dumb of me to imply that the columns (W-L records vs. various segments of NCAA hierarchy) were the only considerations.

Need to get the defense and rebounding back in shape. Then and only then do we have a road back to the top 25 or, dare I say, the dance.

Wisconsin could be the wake up call, like last year from our first slump..last year we had another one in early February, starting with Michigan game at MSG..there will be ups and downs. Wisconsin is slower than MSU & OSU, so they may not be as successful the the tight perimeter defense. Look for a big game from Young, freeing things up for a rested Harper. Rutgers by double digits..
Ranking, especially at this point, is accurate. With Cliff’s return, & a consistent 20+ Harper, we could return to the #18-22 neighborhood..

It was expected. Could've been worse.

Rankings are fun and exciting and all. But ultimately meaningless until the end of the season. Only thing that really means anything is winning. Win and the ranking takes care of itself (usually).

Hopefully the team solves it's issues and heals-up from the nagging injuries and becomes more competitive. The mental stuff (lack of focus and poor team chemistry) can sometimes be pretty hard to fix. But the tactical stuff seems pretty easily solvable, IMO. And solving the tactical stuff makes the game more fun for the players, which helps cure the mental stuff.

I'm looking forward to the next game with hope.

Rutgers was never a top 25 team. We have to win some MUST games to deserve a top 25 ranking.
It is going to be very hard since no one voting for us wants to look like a fool.
We have a better shot at #50 than #25.

stop it with your UCONN love/hate thing.. we don't need to be "good enough" for you to have something to compete with UCONN fans. YOU don't matter and we shouldn't have to hear all about that.

I know we were # 32 in the AP yesterday and we are # 28 in the Coaches poll from yesterday. There is still the chance that we can right the ship. Hopefully we can get a win against Wisconsin which I think would do a great deal for our confidence and get us back into a better place in the BIG. Go RU.
