I can't find a way to disagree. I want to try not to sound like the Scarlet glasses are on but maybe just a C+ for adjustments

Troll or idiot? Which is it? Has to be troll, because there's nobody with a brain who can't see the improvement in RU this year. Last year we averaged 5.7 points per game and gave up 39.4 points per game, a differential of 33.7 ppg, while this year we averaged 26.7 points a game and gave up 32.1 points per game, a differential of 7.0 ppg. That means we improved by almost 27 points per game, which is unheard of in one season. Those are at least "A" numers and maybe even National COTY numbers, not "D" numbers.

Plus: The offensive line and defensive just wasn't good enough, but he found ways to make this team appear competitive in many games. He did this with a team that was embarrassingly bad under the previous full time HC. The recruiting class is a lot better than any class compared to the previous HC. Obviously, the perception of the team changed which also allowed him to bring in a lot of transfers who contributed to the team.

Minuses: His stubborn nature at the QB position was costly in the game against Illinois (where Vedral clearly did not have it). His lack of trust with Sitkowski (when Vedral was hurt) has probably hurt his development. It was pretty clear that opponents have figured out the Langan package, but he still went to it. However, he was trying to figure out what worked and probably saw things in practice that led to these decisions. Therefore, the minuses were not awful which leads me to the grade.

We lost 6 games by a total of 70 points and 3 of those by a total of 16.

All this with shortened time to practice before the season.

Last year we lost by 52 to Michigan

I'm giving Greg an A

I don’t see how anyone can give Schiano and staff anything less than an A. Did you have any interest in games the past two years? How many times did you walk out at half time to go tailgate or just leave early to go home? Heck, one game last year we came, tailgated and when game started went home. Even two games this year where we weren’t competitive were different. OSU game was entertaining to the end and PSU was only a one score game in third quarter. Last year both would have been 50-0 scores. And they did this with mostly same roster. They get an A in my grade book.

In Ash's last two years, I would usually DVR the games and then do things with the family with full intention of watching the games when I got home...That was bad enough in itself...But then, in at least 10 games each year, I would never even get through the first quarter if I even watched at all and just deleted the recordings.
This year- I still recorded the games while watching on Sling - just so I could pause at times and then catch up...But did not miss a single second of any game this year.
The best part about it- in most games- you had to watch each game right until the end.

The only part of Greg's game I give him less than an A is the in game and halftime adjustments. He had a couple of games that he mastered it and outcoached the other guy- including OSU, but others, he was taken to the woodshed with in game adjustments. But, there is a part of me that realizes that with limited practices before the season and the serious lack of depth on the team- we were very limited in what we could adjust.

Next year will take Greg's best performance yet. If he had a horrible year and was blown out in games, he would have gotten a pass this year and hope in year 2 he could have done what he did this year. But, with his and the team performance THIS year, he jumped a year. I don't know if it will amount to a bowl or a ton of wins but if we witness a let down next year- it would be unacceptable.

IMO He was the face of Rutgers football from 2005-2012 ...and even when he wasn't here.

Now that he's back...the older, kinder, gentler, wiser, less intense (at times), funnier, more humble, more GREGarious, more accessible to the press version is a home run. Period.

The culture is changings and the results we all want will come in time.

Managing Team Through Covid: A+
Upgrading Roster Talent: B (great work on DL and servicable QB; weaker on OL and TE)
Team Development: A (LB, DB and WR all showed noticable improvement)
Recruiting: B+ (will know more in next year to two for 2020 and 2021 classes, but strong contributors in Max Melton, Victor K, Bryan Felter beginning to emerge; significant update of talent coming in but just missed on couple of top 2021 players - overall very solid).
Game Day Coaching: B+ (significant improvements on both sides of the ball, but some tough performances such as Penn State)
Strength/Conditioning: A (though need more improvement for OL)
Overall program direction after 1 year: A

Key offseason moves: Further upgrade at QB, OL. DL also, but recent transfer checks that off, though may need one more given Dwumfore going pro and unclear if Barrow returns.

To me, the staff hiring had some major hits but some misses as well. B+
Recruiting is kind of the same thing. Some good gets, but some real misses. B
Game day coaching. WAY UP over last year. B+ for reality, A when you factor in improvement.
Excitement generated, putting us back into play, trusting assistants, beginning the restoration of respect. A+

And he did it all with o spring practice or a true Summer camp. Imagine installing a new Off and Def with a whole new staff with the benefit of spring practice You a r to e impressed by that

Did you come to this decision before hearing guys like O3, Melton, and others decided to return? If Rutgers gets an upgrade at QB through the portal, how does that impact your views? Remember, Rutgers will have spring ball and a full summer camp too.

A+ grades all around except the game day coaching for the Illinois game. We should’ve won that game. We were better than them but failed to be able to stop the QB draw. Only disappointing loss of the season from a prep perspective.

We were just beat up by the end of the season going up against teams that had more depth in the trenches (except Maryland which we won). Can’t blame coaches for that - I don’t think it mattered what they did in the PSU or Nebraska games.

I agree. The Illinois game, up 10, at home, against a team not at full strength, was the only loss that I had trouble with. And I can more than live with that. Can't believe a 3-6 season felt so...fun again.
