can someone with a good handle on this please break this down. I have teenage sons involved in sports and I'm curious what is permissible. Google didn't help much and I started going blind reading executive orders. I know kids are practicing some sports indoors. Is there a difference between a bubble and other indoor facilities? is it just practices which are permissible indoors or are their regular games permitted too?? thanks!!!!

Found this from the Philadelphia Inquirer:

“Indoor fall sports, such as gymnastics and girls’ volleyball, will be moved to a new season that will begin with practices Feb. 16 and competition on March 3. The guidance also sets Dec. 3 as the starting date for practices in winter sports, with games to begin Dec. 21, and includes plans to “maximize the spring season” to account for the lack of competition in spring sports in 2020.”

I know for hockey at least, I'm pretty sure practices are allowed, but games are definitely not. Many facilities are defying it though and letting their teams play games anyway, and the president of USA Hockey's Atlantic District (NJ & Eastern PA) has expressed concern about the state police jumping in because the rinks and travel teams aren't even being subtle about it as schedules and results are posted online, and the parents fill their social media pages with pictures and videos of their kids playing games. The men's league I play in has been running since July. Last week, a player on another team tested positive, but I haven't heard any news on if anyone he played with or against tested positive as well.

My son plays tier 1 hockey and several teams have had kids test positive including his team. all teams that test positive are required to quarantine. We are practicing in NJ, but all our games have been out of state. weird that PA, CT, & MD allow games to be played but not Murphy.

Still waiting to hear about travel basketball for my kid. We had to register last month for tryouts but no indication on if or when tryouts would actually be held yet.

All indoor sports can resume in N.J., Murphy says.

Just asked my kid's travel basketball coach about Murphy's order and they are not optimistic at this time of having a season. Many schools currently won't allow kids from outside their district to use their facilities and their whole league uses elementary, middle school and high school gyms to play.

I do know indoor sports facilities such as ISP in Randolph have been cleared for full contact lax in the winter and are signing teams up. No parents allowed to watch/go in. staggered start times so teams aren't passing each other. Honestly I'm not sure how this is allowed and restaurants can't have 50% or we can't have 35% - 50% fans in the stands for football games...Seems he is being selective now but initially with pools he wasn't...He put a 100 or 200 person on pools early summer but it didn't matter what size. We had some pools which are used at 20% capacity and others crowded...didn't make much sense...But what does in 2020?

You need to join one of the travel leagues that use private facilities.

Thoughts on youth wrestling?? According to the article it's allowed, but it doesn't get any more high-contact than that. Asking for my 7 year old and even if it's all systems go, not sure that I'm comfortable from a risk/reward point of view.

I'm a BB travel coach as well. We started to "prepare" for a season just in case. looking at PA for tournaments, using a private facility for practices etc.

We are still hoping the schools follow the lead and allow us in for games and practices (Its A LOT cheaper) and one of the travel leagues opens up. We know one league was very proactive in getting their ducks in a row, so there is hope.

I've been telling parents all of our options and the possibility of it being shut down at a moments notice.

ISP got some type of special clearance from the state before Murphy's new executive order from today? I think ISP and other facilities were just flouting the state orders. I've been to indoor lacrosse games this Fall in a bubble and don't think that was legal. Also, is that ISP league really $299 a kid? 20 kids a team or so. Damn!!!!
