It would really help out the school districts if the rest us stopped f'n around and did something to get things under control.

Hard to blame the schools districts for not figuring it out when the country spent the summer making sure the virus stayed around in huge numbers.

Gov Murphy did the opposite and encouraged and even participated in mass gathering protests.

What if both parents have to work? Kind of hard to work a full-time job and home school the little ones at the same time. School districts need to step up and figure it out.
You sound like a socialist. Parents decided to have kids. This is not going on forever. If mommy or daddy have to leave their job for a while and actually raise their kids that's their issue.

In the late 60's/early 70's it was the Vietnam War and Civil Rights that drove young, mostly college educated people toward "activism". In the 10's and 20's it appears to be movements like BLM and climate change that are driving the same types of college educated youth towards activism.

Shouting the 10's/20's equivalent of "cut your hair" and "stop playing that damn Rock n' Roll music" isn't changing the reality. A young, socially conscious generation is upon us and they appear to be passionate about expressing their views. "Picket lines and picket signs. Dont punish me, with brutality. Talk to me, so you can see, what's going on".

Is there a war going on that young people are being drafted into of which I am unaware? They tried ramping up rebellion against the Iraq War.. it failed to "catch on". The Afghan War has been going longer than any war in our history.. but that doesn't have their butts out in the street doing the socialists bidding. You are missing seeing "the forest".

Is there a war going on that young people are being drafted into that I am unaware of?

Is there a line in the 1st Amendment that prohibits the people to peacefully assemble unless there is a war going on where folks are being drafted? Were there not protests in the 60's and 70's regarding the Civil Rights movement?

You are witnessing a generation of activists. I see kids with MBAs from "big time Universities" taking jobs at non-profits. I am 52 years old and those that graduated with me who had MBAs went straight to Wall Street and big corporations. This is different in my opinion. Watch.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

I don't think it is a war but the effects of social injustice and widening of the income distribution.

I have two well educated highly successful children. They have it much harder as a young adult that my wife and I did. There is a much larger percentage of the population, especially young, that are now going to speak up because of the current situation. Live with it, you helped create this mess.

I never protested when I was younger. Didn't have the time. Was either working or studying my a$$ off; or both.

Why is it on the schools to provide the daycare? Maybe the companies that are forcing parents back to work should help out. Schools have been the go-to for far too long for far too many things.
Cops are social workers and schools are daycare. That's a great model.

One thing I don't understand is if masks are to protect others, everyone in a school setting should be wearing them...defeats the purpose a bit if most of the people in the same building aren't wearing them and are among a mass of people.

It's like having a indoor concert and having the musician wear a mask but not the audience...not logical.

I guess there are a lot of variables at play. Both of my children have bachelor's degrees from good schools and neither is 30 yet. I have a master’s degree and have done quite well and am close to what should be a comfortable retirement. They are both doing much better relatively speaking than I was at their age.

The vast majority of the protests were peaceful

You don't like what they were protesting about so you focus on the negative acts and throw out other problems that you think they should be addressing
Yes, peaceful protests. Then why are governors begging The fed for money to restore their cities? Nobody is complaining about 500 people marching in Mahwah.

NO.

If I want to talk about rioting and looting and tearing down statues then THAT is what I am talking about.

The peaceful protests are what they are. I have zero problem with them whether they be about police brutality, black lives or ending the quarantine rules.

How many peaceful protests have to happen to JUSTIFY the rioting and looting and tearing down of statues? If 10 million people protest does that excuse 1 million people rioting and looting and tearing down statues?

Connecting those issues is worthless other than to say the people bent on anarchy and destruction are USING the peaceful protests for cover. And some people involved in peaceful protests understand that clearly.

I said it’s much harder. I also mentioned they were successful. First son is 28, graduated from a great hs. UF honors. Doing great. I find it interesting that he and his fiancée are only couple from his HS class that own a house. Starting salaries are plain out sad compared to 30 years ago.

I know that doesn’t fit your argument but young adults have been left a worse opportunity than you had. Good job.

Please. I’m not much older than your son and I graduated grad school just months after 9/11. Not exactly best time to start a career. None of my fiends owned a house at 28, it’s not uncommon.

I was at RBS getting a MBA when 9/11 happened. Graduated May 2002. Not a great time, but you find a way and succeed. When in doubt, go pharma. While all companies have their ups and downs, the industry is rock solid.

Who is gonna teach them when their teachers are sick?

Next man up, just like on a sports team. Aren’t there plenty of teachers assistants already in the class room? They are usually young and can certainly step in to teach K-12 classes as needed.

What % of teachers do you expect to get sick?

I’m sure you didn’t. Why, because like my son that is closer to your age than mine, you have it harder to get ahead than our generation.

funny but your point supports my argument completely. Thx.

No we don’t. My grandfather generation had WW2. My mothers generation had Vietnam. We have overpriced colleges that kids choose to go to. All my friends that worked hard, college grads or not, have comfortable lives in their 40’s.

Actually no , there aren’t teachers assistants and people just willing and ready to step in . There is a shortage of teachers already and the assistants are called paraprofessionals or aids . They are in charge of special education students or a group of them . My district is a top ten district ranked in the state and most of ours are older and haven’t even been given a contract for next year yet with the financial and Heath uncertainty. Also, most of them dont have an education degree as we . It’s not like there are just 23 year olds with eduction degrees just waiting in the wings .
There is also a shortage of substitutes and who is going to want to substitute for chump change during a pandemic . Not that easy to just sub someone in.

Not that easy for someone to just drop 5 figures on education . Also why is private better anyways? You definitely aren’t getting top of the line teachers in private schools that’s for sure . You are getting smaller class sizes and controlled student population i get that , but you are also paying a lot of money depending on where you go

Ding ding ding. There are usually difficulties finding subs on a normal day let alone a pandemic.

Teachers at the K-8 level are not replaceable? What a joke.

Get some young substitute teachers in there who are out of work and can follow a lesson plan. The ones with the liberal arts degrees living in their parents basement.

Teachers don’t want to go back to the classroom. Teachers unions are in favor of not going back. Watch this play out.

The vast majority of People with a decent household income aren’t sending their kids to school any more than they are spending money in this economy. Nothing works with 20,000+ cases/1000+ deaths per day. Nothing.

And I believe there are a decent number of teachers who won’t go back. Heathcare workers did/are doing an amazing job considering what they signed up for, not sure teachers are cut from that exact cloth. Tough to blame them, honestly.
