I go to the one in Newton. Little further of a drive but so worth it. I have never had more than 2 people in front of me. Today there will probably be 6 people in front of you. If it takes you an extra hour to drive it's probably worth it
Now that the cats outta da bag, you know what the lines will be like tomorrow.

Obviously a total screwup by DMV, but why would anyone in their right mind go anywhere near a DMV on the first day it opened? I would give it at least a week before even thinking of going there.
I think it’s probably more of the dealers that will have multiple cars that have been waiting for title changes and everything else, plus you have a surplus of people not working or going back to work sooner than later that would rather go to the DMV than sit home. I know people waiting to get there commercial licenses are told there’s a 3 month backlog plus all those existing commercial drivers have renew their DOT card, imagine there are many kids getting their first drivers license also.

I was at wallington dmv today. Got there at 8:00 am and the police already stop the line, had to turn around and go home. The town of wallington was so crowded with cars back to back! It was crazy!!!!:flush:

Definitely a major screw up by everyone involved for the initial day. Let's see how they handle it moving forward.

Here are scenes of the chaos happening at MVC stations around New Jersey

The scene at Motor Vehicle commission agencies across the state were eerily similar: hundreds of people camped out on lawn chairs or standing in line for hours, frustrations growing as they waited to access the agency on its first day open in three months.

Police in several towns asked residents to avoid the area near their MVCs, and drivers took to social media to complain of hours-long wait times, despite getting in line before sunrise.

Wallington is a very small quiet town between ShopRite & the DMV and sometimes the Bowlero there’s not much going on, even before the Virus you’d have to get there around 7:30am to get in and out. I could only imagine what that small parking lot looked like.

Wait? You actually have to go to DMV to renew?! I have not set foot in a dmv since 2005 or 2006...can’t you do all that online?!

If you're renewing your registration, you can do that online. I got mine in March (post-apocalypse) and had it mailed to me within a couple of weeks of the online transaction. They even had a page to print out to prove you did it in the event that you are stopped.

Earlier this year, I also did my license renewal by mail. They were able to use my current picture, which made things easy (I decided not to get the Real ID at this time since I only fly a handful of times a year).

Unemployment office can’t answer a phone call or return an email but they can call you to schedule counseling so you can find a job if you’ve been furloughed for one week. Government bureaucrats are completely incompetent but many want more of it.

The business of big government is, well, HUGE! Why isn’t the scary homeless situation in SF a big deal to them? Because the business of cleaning up and dealing with them is HUGE $$$$$; it is all about control...politicos could not give a crap about you or yours...but the bad clowns keep getting re-elected. In a government by and for the people, we cede control almost always!

I wasn’t at the dmv today but I need to switch my license plates between two cars. The fact that I need to go to the dmv for this sort of transaction is nuts. I mean it’s VIN numbers tied to plate numbers right? How many other types of transactions could be done online but aren’t?

I went to inspection in Flemington, today. Got there about 12:30, and the line was out on Rt. 206/31 for a couple hundred yards. All in all, it took 90 minutes. They had 2 of 3 lines open, with two people working each line.
What I didn't consider until I got there, was the line of people going into the building for other stuff. That line was long -- some people brought lawn chairs, some had food delivered while they were waiting. I didn't see any arguments or obvious signs of frustration. LOTS of teenagers in line with (I'm assuming) their parents.

As a prominent poster always tells me, "your problem is putting any faith at all that the government will do something right".
I know who told you that!!!

What a disaster. Three months they had off PAID to get this thing running. Murphy et al more concerned about protesting, taking down statues of Columbus in Trenton and shutting down businesses then helping the poor souls who were waiting in line in the broiling sun only to be turned away yesterday. Then blaming the public because they could have done things online instead .You failed miserably Murphy. From this to all those elderly people you killed putting them back in nursing homes. Hope you are damn proud as you enjoy your Friday night dinner while not wearing a mask and definitely no social distancing with your rock stars.

Or once you get there and see a line going around the block? I'm out.

But people needed to hoard toilet paper too......
