The crowd in Point Pleasant has changed over the years and the locals have become more crochety. It's getting to be Seaside with more angry local base.

There's some very good seafood and drinking on the beach is legal. And Tiki will be reopening Monday. But other than that, kind of meh.

I prefer the stretch from Asbury to Squan.

I went to Point Pleasant Beach HS as a resident of Lavallette. It was and still is a great family community. Unlike a lot of shore towns there is a lot of year round residents. As far as crotchety I find that the people who call local residents crotchety are the same ones who leave all their garbage on the beach, block driveways, don't understand or care about noise restrictions etc.

It will be quieter even with Leggetts reopening because Osprey will be closed. I haven't seen anything from Salty Whale, but they have the space to be open for sure. I heard the sheriff shut down a gathering there so maybe they are concerned.

It appears they dumped sand over the Whale parking lot. There were tables and chairs spread around when I went by at 5pm.

Saw a report on ABC7 a little while ago about the number of African American arrests in PPB being disproportionate to the number of AA residents in town. Mayor said if you account for the number of AA’s in PPB on a normal summer day, the stats would look different. Apparently that was squashed with other data.

Hate to sound like Sarah Palin but I can see Point from my front porch. I used to take the kids when they were young but figure I 've been there maybe 2 times in the past 10 years. For me the shore stops at the Inlet, then picks up again in Cape May.

Besides @newell138 makes it tough for me to cross the border.

You'll get home about the same time as the people in the traffic jam on the "express'' lanes that stay on till their GSP N Jersey exit..

I live in cape may county and never heard it referred to as 7 mile island

So did a 50 mile bicycle ride today. Drove up to Sea Isle to start to face the wind going South a long Rt 9. Inland I saw three businesses using 7 Mile in their name which included 7 Mile Brewing which looks like it might be closed for good. Left Cape May and went North through the beach Island Towns didn't see any business or sign that used that phrase at all. Did see a publication called Seven Mile Times, as mentioned before, in an Avalon bike shop. It's not a paper but an ad magazine. Has a PO Box in Avalon. Asked the owner of the store about it. Said it's not even printed in NJ. He doesn't pay for ads in it but allows a stack of them in his store. Asked him if any locals use the 7 Mile phrase. He just laughed and said no.

I now go to Frederico's on Main Street in Belmar whenever I'm in the area. Anybody that goes out on a limb to secure bank loans so they can try to continue to pay employees deserves my patronage whenever I'm in the area. Hopefully, yours too.

The original Jersey Mike's (originally Mike's Subs) hasn't been at the original location in years. It's now the training headquarters. No subs made there. The main one is on 35 South and Atlantic Ave.

Hitting up a few Keansburg bars today with some buds that live in Middletown .

First stop was Rook COffee in Holmdel and the outstanding Normandie Bakery.

Bringing the thread back to Point Pleasant Beach…. The new mayor has done a great job of getting PPB back to a family place. No drinking on the beach anymore. Liter patrol on the streets. No party houses. Stuff like that.
A 125 year Tall Ship clipper, fully restored, will dock at Point later this year and might become a permanent part of Point as a tourist attraction. The town is buying the original Coast Guard Station and is turning it into a maritime museum.
Inlet fishing is even better than ever.
Martells Tiki bar is still a bit wild but Jenks has turned itself into a family oriented night club. Shawn Mendez, Madison Beer, AJR and others played there today.

The "burg" is a dump. Over run with drugs, welfare and biker gangs, you have to be kidding me. The cheap beers are hardly worth a trip to the ER. So many food quality health issues. The place I might still do take home might be, Pizza Villa, now goes by the name Pizza V. Currently as I post this, a hostage situation in "The Burg", lol

Why don't you take a stroll behind the water park at sunset, and see if it's a place you'd want to party? If you are willing to join the Bloods or Crips, you'll be fine, best of luck, lol

What exactly is a family oriented night club?

They let children in with their parents to watch and listen to the bands during the day hours so I should have called it a day club. Plenty of 7-15 year old kids dancing and having fun while the parents are drinking. Can’t do that at the Tiki bar.
