Boeheim has been there for over 50 years and has been at the Cuse since his freshman year of college. He was Dave Bing’s point guard. The center was from Cherry Hill and was 6’ 5”. After graduation he worked his way up the assistant ladder and when the head coach left for Tulane he was appointed as his successor. Many years ago I was visiting my nephew and had to kill a few hours. I knew that Jerry Hobbie a shooting coach from Cranford was there working with the kid from Greece Ron Seikaly. There were four people in Manley Field House that morning, those three and me. Jim came over and spoke with me for a while. Very friendly and shocked that I was not a Cuse crazy. Told him that I knew Tom Young and Joe Boylan pretty well and he gushed about them. I was surprised. He left after a while and I left shortly thereafter and picked up my nephew and took him to lunch.

Ernie Hobbie was the shooting coach. Jerry was one of his sons. When I was a manager in the late 70's, Tom Young would bring Ernie in once a year to help our team with shooting technique.

Best of Luck,
Groz
