With all the conferences cancelling their conference tournament, I don't see how the NCAA can move ahead with their tournament next week. I think the best case scenario is that the NCAA postpone their tournament. They would still pick a bracket next Sunday, and if the tournament gets played later in the spring, they could allow players to play based on their eligibility on April 6. This would allow seniors to move forward with their professional careers without losing their eligibility to play in a postponed tournament.

I think canceling makes most sense. We got a good team we will be back next year. It’s just a. Basketball tournament. Life goes on. These are students after all.

For a tournament of this magnitude (sponsorship $$$), I'm sure they are weighing a bunch of options. I don't think they are in a room going, "just cancel it."

Health of everyone is paramount. Best to cancel as hard as it would be for us diehard fans who waited 29 years for this day. I would rather see everyone see a 30th year than not see it at all.

Where did you see that? I thought it said they wouldn’t play next week as they are suspending all athletics.

That is not the same thing as postponing the tournament until end of April or early May.

95% of the NCAA budget comes from teh NCAA basketball tourney. They don't get much football money.

There is big money here. Without it they can't pay their bills which is some cases includes huge non-refundable expenses for arenas. Insurance coverage is going to have to be examined closely. Somebody in some office somewhere is saying we just need to have TV to get by. Are you telling me that having 50 odd players, coaches, refs, broadcasters in a building constitues that much of a health risk to a population mostly impervious to this virus? ..That's what someone is saying.

Kansas also opted out. The US would have to see a decline in cases as in China before anything could be played and we haven't even peaked yet. You can't clear and have the same thing happen again. Bet NBA just goes with playoff in June if that.

What does the NCAA provide to college sports? what do they need $1 billion dollars for? just a question. i don't know what the NCAA does except acts as the athlete police. do they provide a service? not being critical. i just don't know what they do.

Love college athletics but it shows how far skewed it has become when we need a $1B+ organization to run amatuer athletics.

What % of players will, after having tournament cancelled, go home or back to school and play in pick up games?

Evidently, although you are in the tournament you can opt out like Kansas and Duke. Another first of many to come for now.
Who would've thunk it ! Better to be safe.

My preference would be to have Selection Sunday go on as scheduled but postpone the tournament till a later date with the acknowledgment that it might have to be canceled altogether.

That way, the teams involved would have the satisfaction to have been selected even if the tournament ends up not being played. For a school like Rutgers, with our long drought, that would still be meaningful and, at least, a small reward for our players who have worked so hard to have the great season we've all enjoyed.

Does anyone here know how many people under 30 have died from this virus? This feels like the 3rd sex bathroom deal. If two kids out of two thousand feel like they should go in the bathroom of the opposite sex, then EVERYBODY gets to go in any bathroom. Completely out of scale to the problem. "in the interest of safety" must be balanced with reality. Otherwise we should never step into a car ever gain. Too dangerous.

Could they have an NCAA tournament in the fall with all 68 teams? You'd still have a 2020 NCAA champion, they would just be crowned in December during bowl season.

Even if it is "just a basketball tournament" what is wrong with postponing it instead of cancelling? I don't get the objections.

Also, I assume the schools pulling out mean if it is played NOW not if it is played EVER.

They provide coverage for the misdoings of the Blue Bloods, see University of No Classes and Pedophile State, and come down hard on smaller programs who offer a kid a sandwich at the wrong time.
