Palm is an idiot. Was just on at half time of Mich St - Ohio St game on CBS. Entire crew focused on RU on last four in list showing the 10 B1G teams that should get in.

Now he’s clinging to the less than 3 road wins angle, talking about play in game etc. Ended by saying as long as RU doesn’t get embarrassed in the B1G tourney they should be in.

It’s all so stupid.

RU winds up ahead of AT LEAST Mich & Indiana in B1G standings. Ended strong, beating #9 MD and beating Purdue on the road which they had on the bubble. Just pure stupidity.

He’s using a SINGLE data point — road/neutral site wins — to determine our fate, despite the fact that EVERY OTHER DATA POINT favors us being SAFELY “in”.

He keep harping in the fact that the last time a team got in with only 2 wins away from home was Illinois in 1994. But he keeps ignoring that we went 18-1 at home, which is quite a rare feat even for elite teams.

By his distorted logic, we would have been better off losing a bunch of home games, say, only going 15-4 at home, while winning a couple more road games, perhaps going 4-8 instead of 2-10. So Palm thinks that 19-12 (10-10 B1G) is better if there are more road wins, than 20-11 (11-9).

The flaw in this logic is that road/home metrics are already baked into the NET rankings (and KenPom etc). So he’s double counting the road issue.

Maybe if the B1G actually gave Rutgers a game on CBS or advocated for the channel to feature us CBS might actually feel more compelled to give us done support and respect.

Anyone have a listing of B1G games on CBS by team this year?

He has IU as a 10 seed despite having a worse record (19-12 vs our 20-11) (not to mention 9-11 vs our 11-9 in league) and markedly worse NET (60 vs our 32).

He’s probably basing that on the fact that IU has 2 true road wins and 2 neutral site wins. But one of those neutral site wins was at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indiana, practically a home game. So they have only 3 legit away from home wins.

Plus I keep coming back to the fact that we were “in” every single road loss until the very end, with the worst margin of defeat only being 12 points. “Close” road losses, and consistency in playing EVERYBODY tight, has to count way more than the raw fact of going 2-10 away from the RAC.

Nailed it. If anything cancel out the amazing home record with the terrible road record and look at everything else which all show we are in.

One of the hosts said “amazing” to him after his analysis. I understand that you should show that you can win on the road since you are going to be on the road in the tournament but he’s just off altogether

The other part his obsession on one data point ignores is a two win road team usually isn't very good. I doubt there is another two win road team that is 18-1 at home.

I would be surprised if there is anyone close to that in the last twenty years. We are a huge outlier in any data set.

Exactly, how many two road-win teams have also won twenty games.

Our NET is higher than 40. Our RPI is higher than 40. Our BPI, Sagarin, all higher than 40. Our Kenpom is higher than 40 (27). So, can someone explain how you explain us as only a 10 seed (teams 36-40th overall)

He absolutely had to. No choice with the Maryland and Illinois wins because too many top half of the bracket wins for RU. He still has Indiana ahead though which is a joke right now.

There is no possibility 22 Texas Tech 18-13(Q1 3-10, Q2 4-3) doesn't get in even with a quarterfinal loss to Texas which I don't think will happen, 0 Q3 losses. They have 7 losses to the top 21, 1 Kansas x2, 5 Baylor x2, 11 N Creighton, 17 WVU, and 21 vs Kentucky, all of them close losses (7,5,2,3,3,4) but 12 pt loss @ WVU. Ws against N 8 Louisville, vs WVU and @ Texas already. Common sense says they're in.

I think if they do lose that game they are in trouble, where i differ with Jerry is he has them out now which is premature.

here is their issue....they will be just 10-14 vs Q1,2, and 3...pretty bad mark and its one of those historical things that fit into Jerrys model

They really dont have a lot of quality win....Louisville, WVU, Oklahoma...if Texas isnt part of the field they no longer count as a quality win. At 18-14 they are 50/50. The non conference sos is just 182. If they do get in with losing to Texas, its first four for them for sure.

Again, who even cares? Wait till Selection Sunday and it will all be clear. Worrying about Jerry Palm or whether we will be a 9 or a 10-seed is pointless. As expected, we have the first day bye, so worry about beating Michigan and advancing to Day 3.

NET 31 Florida 19-15 was a 10 seed last year. Q1 4-12 Q2 4-1
Q1/2 8-13 Q3 6-2 14-15

NET 55 Ohio St. 19-14 was 11 seed last year. Q1 4-10 Q2 5-3
Q1/2 9-13 Q3 5-1 14-14

10-14 would be a hard take, and the 8 Q4 wins very weak, but I can't imagine NET 22 missing even with a loss to Texas, they will still be top 30 NET. Guess those close losses to top teams is favorable to computer metrics.

it will make it interesting...that they need to play Texas throws the wrinkle in...I have them beyond the first 4 as an 10 currently but a loss to Texas at least moves them into that first 4 where perhaps compared with a Richmond, the committee might decide to go with the smaller school and knock a power 6 school out. If they beat Texas they kill two birds with one stone.

I agree. I think we're all spending way too much time hand-wringing over Rosie Palm's bracket predictions.

I think it's the top of the last four in (UCLA, Richmond, and Wichita State below us), unless I'm reading it incorrectly. Either way, I think this means he has us playing in Dayton on Tuesday. He's insane and needs help.

Even if you want to lean on the old RPI that hammers teams with a resume like ours (which it seems Palm does) at #47 in the RPI we are ahead of Illinois (49), Michigan (51), Iowa (54) Indiana (64) and Penn State (67).

The old RPI crushes a league like the B1G this season where home teams dominated and road wins were almost impossible. And even with that it appears Palm is being selective in who he wants to apply that system to in our league. Irresponsible.
