Pikiell is overrated.

Disagree?

Explain why we never see adjustments.
Explain why there are never off ball screens.
Explain why we all know this team can be effective by running, but Coach doesn’t allow them to do so.
Explain why we are running set plays for Shaq Carter on the offensive end.

This is not an emotional post, so don’t give me that “I hate our fans” crap. Address my concerns, and explain to me how Pike isn’t a NIT guy.

I thought we had crazy fans. Wow. He has ur team in a spot no one predicted or envisioned at season’s start. He doesn’t have all the talent he needs and you have some young players. From where you were 4 years ago he is definitely ahead of schedule

Not looking forward to a steady stream of these types of hit pieces on our HC. He was the toast of the town until recently. Now he’s a liability to some who claim to be more informed than most RU fans? Not buying it at all.

Minimum of 4 more games to go before the tourney starts. Let them play the games before writing the final chapter on the season.

I'm with Pike, as he's brought more excitement and success to the program than we have seen in decades. What I'm looking at is what coaching changes will he make to coach up our players and recruit at the next level. Having four former guards as our coaching staff may not be the right mixture.

Never see adjustments? Is that because you turn off the games? Rutgers and Pikiell makes a ton of adjustments and that is why we see a lot of late stretches where the other team doesn't score for minutes at a time.

Rutgers doesn't run off ball screens because the offense is predicated on someone driving to the hoop and drawing a double team or getting an easy basket.

There's a big difference between "overrated" and I don't like the way we play and we lost a game today.

I am getting real close to nailing my preseason prediction while totally getting the important thing wrong.

Pike isn’t the answer for the 2nd time this year and I nail it!

Dipshit. Preseason 12th. First winning season at RU in 14 years and 9 wins in the toughest conference in the land. And still has this team in the tourney, if we can get one more win (possibly might need 2).

Literally the only person that has brought value to the thread. Thank you @dpwhite

We will disagree on the adjustments, I haven’t seen many as of late.

As far as the screens go, I get it. But you need to be willing to change up your GP. We have struggled to get to the rim and create opportunities for other guys. Pike just seems so dead set in his ways he’s not willing to give multiple looks.

Just once I would love to see a baseline screen for McConnell to come off.

To be fair if you look at the big ten standings...there’s a realistic chance we do finish tied 12th or 11th in the conference.

Though I don’t believe we will go 0-3 the rest of the way, and I think we’re having a “good” season.

No adjustments yeah right. You come back and wn behind by 18, 16 and almost win a few others without them.

As I said in response to kyk earlier. I’ll take the big 10 coaches who say he’s doing an amazing job at RU and the fact he’s up for coach of the year over anyone’s armchair opinion here.

And when we were predicted to be 12th that was probably with 6-7 wins. Not as even as it is this year.

I was looking at that today, and it surprised me how much closer we are to fulfilling the early-season prediction of 12th than I'd realized. Northwestern and Nebraska have the bottom two spots secured, but after that it's a logjam and we may have the toughest schedule from here forward. I didn't look at the other teams' schedules, but it looks like we could finish in 10th if we lose out and the other (relevant) teams don't. It looks more like we'll finish around 8th or 9th, especially if we win a game, but this is a rough stretch for us. Just get us into the NCAA tourny and all things start over. Here's the link to the conference standings: LINK

You mean we start pressing and playing fast?

Aka one of my points where Pike refuses to let these guys run unless we’re getting soundly beat. LET. THEM. RUN.

He doesn’t, the pressing and rebound and turnovers leads to more opportunities to run. That’s what he wants if you listen to his interviews.

Yeah 6-7 wins is the same as 9+. Gary waters never got more 500 in a easier conference.

I think we have wins left but this is a hypothetical so the following is under the assumption that we lose these three games which we won’t be favored in and two are on the road. So that includes a loss to Purdue. We would be stuck on 9 wins. Working bottom up after NW and Nebraska, currently:

Purdue 7-10: Indiana (H) Iowa (A), Rutgers (H)

Minny 7-9: Maryland (H), Wisconsin (A), Indiana (A), Nebraska (H)

OSU 8-8: Nebraska (A), Michigan (H), Illinois (H), Sparty (A)

Indiana 8-8: Purdue (A), Illinois (A), Minny (H), Wisconsin (H)

So if Purdue splits Indiana/Iowa and Minny splits their four remaining which includes Nebraska at home we likely tie 12th.

The bar is so so so low here that fans think simple mediocrity is greatness. Your ceiling is so so so low when you dont believe in running an offense and your entire coaching philosophy just relies on having guys play hard.

the scary part is guys are supposed to make their biggest leap between fresh to soph year. Offense efficiency wise ron, caleb and myles have gotten worse. Montez ever so slightly better. When you dont put your guys in position to succeed its not sustainable and you have a very low ceiling

Man there are things going on that many don't see or grasp. Yes Pike and all coaches err and can use adjustments. But he is doing a bang up job to date and deserves nothing but kudos.

According to Ken Pom we have the 12th ranked defense and 74th ranked offense. We also have one of the least experienced team in the whole country. It ranks in the 200s in terms of experience. How can you possibly say he's overrated considering where we were when he inherited the team that was 236th in defense and 303rd in offense in 2016? How many coaches can bring a program thats ranked 279th in the country to 32nd in 4 years? Not many, unless you're talking about the elite coaches or the programs with all the $bag men$.

Nobody predicted us to make the tournament this year. Nobody. The fact that we're even talking about the tournament is an argument in itself that Pikiell is a great coach. He's even a National Coach of the Year finalist.

The only people who think he's overrated are delusional fans on this board.

So if Purdue splits their games with Indiana and Iowa, and beat us, they will be at 9 wins. Minny is probably gonna lose to Maryland and Wisky, and will have their hands full at Indy. So they may get two wins, giving them 9 wins. tOSU should win at Nebraska, but have their hands full in their other three games. So if they get two wins, and we lose out, we finish behind them. That leaves Indy, who just beat PSU. They get Minny at home, so let's say that's a win. Then they need one more win out of their other three games to finish ahead of us. The pressure is on.

The schedule for us is a big factor in perception. Move some of these more difficult games to earlier in the season and have some of the earlier wins now and we have a whole different conversation. Luckily for the team, the committee takes the entire season into consideration, not late season record.

7-25 the year before he got here
NCAA bubble, first winning season in 14 years in his 4th year as HC. Possible B1G COTY.
Oh so because we had potato brain coaches before him that means he’s good?

Mike Rice was a better coach than him. Some of you won’t like that because he threw basketballs at kids, but Rice’s teams weren’t soft as baby ****.

I recognize TKR has little brain posters. Some of you need to understand the definition of overrated.

I don’t mean Pike is a bad coach. I mean Pike is most certainly not the god king most of you act like he is.

He has gotten out coached multiple times down the stretch. He also hasn’t had his team ready for the prime time.

Go ahead RHJ, go ahead Geo, go ahead Myles (Charmin) Johnson. Make my day. I dare you three to win 2 games down the stretch. Something tells me we’ll see you come out at PSU soft as baby ****...again.
