Northwestern is a must win

We probably flop again at Maryland this week as expected . The northwestern game looms large. We lose that and we are in major trouble for tournament hopes . It is shaping up as the most important game of pike’s tenure so far . Because a February collapse is certainly possible and may have just begun.

easily...given a likely loss at Maryland, a loss to Northwestern would deflate the balloon and that is an understatement. That being said I am not worried although I think the game probably ends up being uglier than it should be

however I will take issue with your posts.....just because they lost today doesnt mean there is some swoon happening or it began, that sort of ludicrous, its one loss to a ncaa team

A loss doesn’t mean a swoon is happening, but it means it can. Don’t swoons typically start with a loss ??

Northwestern has always been the biggest remaining game after Nebraska because if you lose it essentially counts as two losses and requires RU to win an extra game to get in (20). Beat NW and everything stays on track but lose and RU is on bubble status.

Don’t minimize northwestern. They have some young talent a la Koop and Boie.

If they shoot the tre well, it could get dangerous

Lesson learned after Nebraska

Not true.I expect Rutgers to be a favorite in all remaining home games.
We'll see how they do against Maryland on Tuesday. If they lose by 15, can't see how Maryland wouldn't be favored at RU. But to your point, do we expect to lose by 15 at Maryland? Probably not.

Michigan beat 22-1 Gonzaga 82-64 Neutral court
Why is Michigan being written off a bad team or loss?
This team is good when it wants to be, ALL 8 losses are Q1 losses.

More likely than not 9 or 10 teams (at least) are making the tournament out of the B1G. Realistically, even if Rutgers only goes 10-10, they will be in with their NET ranking.

Hell, there will probably even be a 9-11 or 8-12 team (looking at Ohio State) that makes the tournament if the bubble is weak.

Northwestern has some very good players. Right now they are ahead of Purdue 50-40 with just about 13 and a half minutes remaining.

Yep, glad you're honest.

Look, to be honest, my post is a dick post. Sorry. I get frustrated with the fact that so many people get so negative after a single loss and everyone thinks we will win out after every win.

Let me try again.

I disagree with you. Barring some sort of collapse, Rutgers will likely be favored against Northwestern, Illinois, and Michigan at home. We might also be favored against Maryland at home but we might also be slight dogs.

No worries. We are all frustrated with tonight's game

We know the team is better than how they played today

Hopefully they can take care of biz at home and sneak one out on the road too

As I said, I think we can put together 4 game win streak NwU through Michigan..and if we already have one loss vs Maryland, a return game, at the RAC, for an undefeated home season will be off the charts...

i will sign on for 3-1 in the next 4...gimme the pen.....Actually if RU gets to 10-6 thats the thing to shoot for....RU would have 4 left...3 on the road true and Maryland at home but geez thats why we play the games, if RU cannot avoid going 0-4 they do not deserve a bid...so yeah I would sign on for 10-6 right now.

This is NOT a must win.

It is one of the remaining 9+ games left. No doubt our path is tougher without a win.

After this game we will have played 24 games. Can't look at Seton or St. Bonnie's to assess what we really are. If NW plays their A game and we play our C game we probably lose.

We will probably be tight and play not to lose because it is natural. A loss here and then maybe fans and players feel like they are back to being the hunter and our play is different.

More confident about our chances of beating Maryland at home now..we should get at least 3 of the 4 remaining home games..still think we can get 4 wins in a row, and punch the ticket with the Michigan win..would be fitting, as they are the school that has always got in the way...

It isn't a must win but a loss to NW would drop us from comfortably in (which we still are currently, despite the noise here) to on the bubble.

Its a must win

1. Do you believe there is an independence (or only small correlation) to the result vs. Northwestern and our next few games?
2. What happens if we don't win? Do you really think our chances of dancing (that's what this is all about right now) drop to below 20%?

if we don't win it is very likely we are not putting a push together to get to the NCAA tourney. Losing at home to Northwestern would confirm all red flags we seeing. You are one who believes we do a complete reversal. Its not like we are playing Northwestern away. We are playing them where we are 15-0. Sure teams bounce back after loss to a bottom feeder, do you see this particularly team bouncing back headed on the road with their offensive troubles. A loss to Northwestern means there is a lot to worry about with this team. Not to mention tanking the resume in more ways then one and eliminating almost any cushion.

mathematically sure its not a must win because there are 7 other games left. I do not deal in mathematics.

even with a win vrs Northwestern,I dont see three other wins after that. Best would be maybe TWO,leaving RU to win at least ONE B10 tournament game to make the NCAA.
its shaky.

Rutgers has not lost a game at the RAC and the three teams coming into the RAC after Northwestern, RU was either tied or down one possession in the closing minute.

I think that we are on the bubble right now, along with plenty of other teams.

If we need 20 wins to get in to the tourney then NW is a must win to have hopes of getting there.
