Not a scientific measure but a lot of random groups of friends bought tickets. I think basketball will be louder for RU than initially thought. Unfortunately, many of those same friends are skipping the wrestling due to the no reentry policy at MSG.

I don't know man. Nose bleeds at the RAC are going for $50 a pop on stubhub. Fans are buying in. I'd expect a large RU presence on Saturday. Will be surprised if Michigan can keep up.

Not really promoted it? Guess you don’t have twitter or instagram cause it’s all over RU’s postings.

Disagree Rutgers has barely promoted this event other than to season ticket holders via email. I get that it’s not a “home game” but it’s a perfect opportunity to make this a home crowd and get another big W.

There are thousands of casual fans we could tap into and need to be alerted and blasted on social media (fb, Twitter, ig) and they haven’t done it for this game.

I was thinking the same but given the ranking and run this team has made I think we out number Michigan. I bet most of the upper deck that they opened up last week is RU.

A month ago you were wrong and you're still wrong. I've been saying easily more RU fans and guessing that it'll be close to 2:1 RU to UM fans.
2-1 is absurd haha. Dude were you at Rutgers Wisconsin at the garden? It was easily 80-20 in favor of Wiscy and they don't have nearly the alum base in NYC as UM. If there's EASILY more RU fans in the building than UM fans color me very shocked

RU was not having a strong season and obviously were not ranked. Color me shocked if RU chants are not considerably louder than Michigan's. We will out number them by a considerable margin. Part and parcel of the outstanding season we are having and the ease of attending.

To be fair who would have imagined Rutgers would be 15-0 at home and ranked going into the Michigan game a month ago.

That changes things big time.

I think we can out number them 60/40 now but honestly there’s no reason MSG shouldn’t be sold out with 12-14K Rutgers fans considering they’re selling for $35....hence why its disappointing Rutgers isn’t pumping this game up there’s so many people that would go that probably won’t realize this game is happening until Friday or aren’t aware they can get tickets for cheap. We have a solid hard core fan base but an enormous casual fan base that is slow to react.

You know what I take it back, looking now it's mostly students and alumni with the posts.

The only explanation I have is that Rutgers isn’t allowed to promote because it’s an away game or because of their deal with Stubhub.

Otherwise it’s a failed opportunity from the AD so far.

Last year? Has absolutely nothing to do with this year. Silly comparison. I’ll take into account the fact that two of my good friends, whom I was with last night throwing darts, or Michigan alumni and huge Michigan football and basketball fans and have absolutely zero interest in going on Saturday because they still think this is going to be an easy win for the Wolverines. Think about that: I live in freaking Hoboken and they don’t want to spend $35 to go see their alma mater play basketball cross the river.

Surprising I suppose, but mostly that they're not paying enough attention to realize where UM is in the conference standings and where RU is (roles reversed, you might say) and that they think it'll be an easy win for the Wolverines. Might also say something about how "big" fans they really are....maybe complacency sets in when you're used to your school being really good in most sports most of the time.

That was a ranked Wisconsin team against a mediocre Rutgers team, where Wisconsin also played hockey that day and RU only played in the basketball game. Lots of Wisconsin fans made a trip out of it. Couldn’t be more different this time around.

Turns out the original thread on this was 2.5 weeks ago not a month ago, but I said the same thing back then. I didn't think we'd necessarily be ranked later in the season, but after we beat SHU/NE/PSU (and lost to IL), I knew were NCAA-good and posted that we'd have a big majority at MSG, close to 2:1 in the original thread on this topic. Kyk implied it would be 3:1 UM to RU fans, which was just nuts given how good we were playing through 1/13.

It’s not surprising at all. Michigan fans expect to destroy us in every sport, every time, no questions asked. My friends, despite knowing how well we’re playing this year (We were all watching the RU game together last night during dart league), and despite what huge Michigan alumni athletic supporters they are, still have that attitude towards us as such. They try hard not to, it’s kinda funny, but it’s just ingrained in their mindset.

Rutgers sells tickets through Paciolan so Stubhub would have no effect on not promoting the game.

sat will be RAC North. I was there in 2004 (obviously NIT final was a super bowl for us, not for them) but i expect a large large RU contingent. Tickets are still available btw (used to work there and just picked up my tix yesterday from the garden box office).

I know the Big Ten is running the show on this one, so that could very well be the reason.

The garden opening up the upper level and you have to believe that is for the RU demand, not for Michigan, who is disappointing.

This. normally the upper level has been closed (which is why some people in other threads thought the event was sold out; its just the lower bowl allotment was sold out). opening up the upper level is cause of us (my educated guess).

I would say there’s absolutely no question it’s due to the surge in ticket sales over the past 30 or so days from our fan base.

You've criticized Rutgers' promotion of this game a few times. First, why should Rutgers promote this game more when they make nothing off of it. They are correct to promote games at the RAC more. Most of them weren't sell outs until the last few days. Look at the outrageous service fees MSG charges even. What is Rutgers' cut of those?

Second, Rutgers has promoted it plenty. It's 2020. Much promotion is done on social media, and they have talked about the game plenty on there.

I think your criticism is misplaced.

Small sample size, but my wife is a Michigan alum and has around 20 friends who live in NJ or NYC. She told me only two are going.

Yup. On top of factoring in RU's unexpected surge this year and how amped Scarlet Nation is, you've got to consider that Michigan's record, as it stands now, is a big disappointment for that fan base. The difference in enthusiasm has to make a difference.
