Oturu is going to be a very tough matchup for us. He can dominate inside, but he can also step back and hit a top of the key 3. Hopefully, Myles can stay out of foul trouble on Sunday.

Oturu is great but it amazes me how they are so thin. Look at their stats. Oturu, Carr, a little Kalscheur and a whole lot of nothing. Carr is going to have a fresh guy in his shirt all 40 minutes this weekend. I agree Myles needs to stay out of foul trouble with Oturu, but Shaq is giving nice bench minutes and we can bring help defense from others too. Bring out Groundskeeper Carl to get those Gophers!

One man doesn’t beat a good team...Rutgers is becoming a good team...Piekell said before the season this team could be special with hard work , staying healthy and not reading their press clippings... the great thing is we are a young team...

Kalsheur, Demir, and Willis are pretty good too. Not much depth but the starting 5 is one of the more talented in the league

They have played well recently so might be the wrong time to catch them. At this point they should be more concerned with how they are going to score on our D.

I don't think they have the depth to beat us especially now that Geo is back.

Play Young more minutes. He has earned it. His quickness and ability to create changes the entire dynamic of the offense and his defense is outstanding

Next five games for the Gophers:

At Rutgers
At Ohio State
Michigan State
At Illinois
Wisconsin

Brutal stretch. They could really fade here.
With that stretch, you have to figure that they are really thinking the Rutgers game is a game they HAVE to win. Hope we are ready for it.

Carr is tough. Can make threes, takes 5 or so per game. BUT also at 6'2" gets to the line a LOT. 9/10 times per game.

Interesting side note...

Minnesota has had 3 leading scorers in 17 games, Oturu(8), Carr(6), and Kalscheur(3)
Rutgers has had 7 different leading scorers in 17 games, Mathis(1), Geo(3), RHJ(4), Johnson(2), Yeboah(2), McConnell(3) and Young(2)

My wish list......a B1G win without anyone scoring in double digits. Won't be easy. but doable!

A game used to be a “big” game on the schedule because of who we were playing, now it is a “big” game because we are in it and we need to keep on winning. The opponent isn’t the driving force, we are.

they have two other guys scoring 8/9 a game.

after that it’s nothing but they have 5 players who have shown ability to play well.

Your comment isn’t entirely wrong, just slightly misguided

This is going to be a tough match-up for RU. Our defense makes it a toss up to me, but Oturu is excellent on both ends. It'll be a great learning experience for Myles.

Great point. This and the expectation we are going to win is very indicative of how the tides have changed. Bad day to be a gopher.

Mathis and Young are so good defensively we can almost count on other teams guards having a sub par performance at the RAC. Who was the last guard to light us up at home?

Myles is due for a big game. Let's hope he brings it Sunday. He has to be more consistent and stay out of early foul trouble

Kalsheur lit us up big time last year. 5 or 6 threes. At one point he was 5-5 from deep. He's a catch and shoot guy so we'll need to go over the top on screens.

Minnesota is another one of the B1G schools that looks down its nose at Rutgers. There is a real fear if Rutgers gets its act together, that's another significant mountain to climb to maintain their status as a "middle of the pack" school. Time for a payback/b*tch slap tour.

5 through 11 schools:
Wisconsin: check
Penn State: check
Illinois: damn (one more shot)
Purdue:?
Iowa:?
Indiana: check
Minnesota:?

Make players other than Carr, Oturu, and Kalscheur beat you. Much easier said than done.

I'd send a lot of double-teams at Oturu and make him pick up his dribble. The guy doubling cannot be Carr or Kalscheur's man, they need to say home. If Oturu makes the passes and it's Payton Willis or Alihan Demir that kills us, then you live with that.
