Right. Because in a defensive game like that it makes total sense that illinois has 4 fouls with under a minute to go in the second half.
Yep Illinois shot 28% but still won. Couldn’t have been free throw differential at all. 4 fouls in the entire second half of the “most physical game” gimme a break
16 offensive rebounds by IL. Biggest stat of the game.
the refs were not why we lost, anyone who is bitching are just sore babies. Myles is going to get called for those screens per his reputation..for him to get called for 3 is on him and Pike not on the refs. Game was tied with 2 minutes left..that was the game, one team made plays, one didnt.
Agree you can’t make that call on MJ at the end. I thought that the announcers seemed to suggest so as well. And was Harper not fouled on that drive to the basket at the end of the game when he went down? Unsure. Asking. Considering no Baker and Johnson for all practical purposes, and on the road against a very good IL team, you have to believe we will get our share of road wins this year.

not sure on the Harper play...would have to see replay, the refs would say he slipped and fell with the ball...was he fouled?
Guys have to acknowledge refs in this game. As physical as any and Illinois not even in the bonus. You can stick head in the sand but refs were the difference.

When Pike gets called with a T you will complain that it was a game too close to get one.
It would be nice if all refs called or didn't call grabbing (think it was McConnel who was held trying for a steal),.palming, double dribble, hacking, bodies colliding....but there is NONE. Seems like the refs decide on the spur of the moment ...what a foul is or isn't as opposed to the definition of a foul.
This should be addressed nationally so there is some consistency.

Yes, there was a disparity in foul shots but Rutgers had ample opportunities to win the game if they just made a couple of wide open jump shots.This clearly was a winnable game because Illinois offense was equally inept but they kept getting offensive rebounds and then fouled resulting in points.This loss will come back to haunt Rutgers unless they can upset another team on the road.

We all know that there are many factors that go into a W or L, not one “reason.” The foul differential was one factor.

Refs sucked and missed a ton of calls against both teams all game. Why the OP can’t acknowledge that is beyond me. That said, Bac’s point every game about it evening out most of the time is accurate. Both points can be true at the same time. Just sucks when you’re on the opposite end of a critical call that can decide a game. Myles moving screens need to get cleaned up but refs need to start calling that stupid foul more consistently. It’s like an OL holding in football. Could be called every play. That was a trash call with the game on the line.

I watched the game and I did think Illinois was getting more calls than us. But nothing too blatant. But what I find interesting is that even nj.com characterized the first two fouls on Myles Johnson as “ticky tack”. That’s a rarity for nj.com to come to our defense. Oh well. We get Illinois at home and we need to run them off the court.
Rutgers may win the next time they play Illinois but I doubt they run Illinois off the court. Illinois shot horribly today. I doubt that happens again.

Refs for the game we’re fine. The moving pick on Johnson in last 2 minutes was tough, really borderline. Even announcers didn’t think it was right call.
I said Rutgers could win. In fact they would be favored due to home court. What have you seen that makes you think they would “run Illinois off the court?”
I guess we will see. As I have said since before the season, I think Rutgers is pretty damn good. Illinois with Ayo, Kofi, Giorgi, Frazier, Feliz, Griffin isn’t chopped liver. Should be another great game.
