I, for one, love the charm of the RAC and hope they never build a new arena. Newer and bigger isn’t always better.

Sorry guys, I had no problem viewing initially. I went back and it asked for subscription. Must have figured out I hate Penn State.
Mixed reaction to this. In general I like the story and the writer did a good job. But toward the end he pulls out too many backhanded compliments. Without Geo we’re not a talented team? Antithesis of high end athletes? C’mon now.

Too many jabs. We whooped their *** and have plenty of athletes and talent. Hence why were 2-0 without our leader.

Agreed, that's a very interesting read from a rival's perspective. It's much of what we see, but it's great to read that others see it too. I love the comparison to Izzo/MSU... they are the type of program that I want Rutgers to be like some day (soon).
Mostly agree with his write up, but thought he left out Myles as a legit talent.
Take all the underhanded shots as a compliment. They just got crushed. What I read into this in the article is a developing fear of a filled loud RAC that isnt replicated anywhere else in Big Ten. They can call it a dump if they like or maybe in time Death Valley.
Reads like your cousin gets a new car and dumps on you about your ride. It implies that psu has left us behind and we can only win by overachieving. That gap between RU and most of the big 10 has already considerably closed. Yes we’re still climbing the hill, but this isn’t one of Eddie Jordan’s teams.

Here’s the good news about the article. It reaffirms the fact that even after they play us and we beat them they still think we aren’t any good. Let the whole damn conference keep believing that and it will work in our favor as they will not take us seriously.

Despite waxing nostalgically about the RAC and heaping praise upon Pike, it's hard to get past the douchiness of all the author's slamming of our roster and facilities. I could see reading this story from a B1G blue-blood team's local paper, but what has PSU done besides not suck quite as bad as us?
Article is full of passive aggressive digs and condescension. It’s exactly the type of thing you’d expect a bitter unknowledgeable fan to write after an unexpected loss.
Typical PSU attitude - smugness is unbelievable. Even after we beat their top 20 ***, nothing but backhanded compliments. Let's see how they look after Stephens and Watkins graduate. Right back to the bottom quarter of the league where they usually are is my prediction.
Sometimes I just have to laugh. Very respectful article by an opposing writer addressing his own fan base. He couldn't have been more clear that this isn't one of Eddie Jordan's teams. He shows respect for our team, our coach and our arena. Our own fans complain the RAC is a dump: the concourses are too small, concessions suck, students are too far from the court, etc. Hell, this very season we had posters on this site claiming "Pike might not be the answer" or we were EXPOSED by Pitt. This guy gets it. If he were Aretha Franklin he would be singing R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
I wouldn’t say we whooped their ***. It was a damn good game that we pulled away late in thanks to RHJ.
Also, I don’t want to discredit anything. But it’s entirely possible this is a different conversation if Stevens doesn’t get into foul trouble. I happen to think their game plan was to foul and make it sloppy early to keep the crowd out of it.

I would maybe try to put yourself in the shoes of that writer or a Penn state fan? Here's what I would think if i was on the opposing side.
1. The Rac is old and from the outside; it does look like a dump. When you get inside however; it's nostalgic and with some improvements; it could look great. Add more seats to 118 by lifting that section up (i'm no architect, but I'm sure it can be done) and somehow do something with the bathrooms as you can't get in when we have sell outs; or you'll wait on line and miss 7 minutes of a half. And without putting lipstick on a pick, a designer could clearly expand the exterior with a new facade and roof that matches the practice facility and we don't have to rebuild from scratch. It could look absolutely amazing.
The Practice Center is phenomenal so unfortunately the PSU writer or visiting fans did not see it. I would encourage them to watch a video to get a look. That's all on the facilities.
2. The atmosphere is crazy and a NIGHTMARE for opposing teams. If you come from a school called Penn State; you'll receive some much more harsh treatment coupled with a FXXXK Penn State chant from the students. As much as I despise Penn State, that's taking it a little far. The extreme hatred is more Rutgers hating Penn State rather than the other way around. PSU people are just arrogant towards Rutgers and worse, many are from NJ. If i'm a PSU fan, i do not want to attend a road game at the RAC. PSU continues to have no respect for Rutgers and I don't think they will until we can beat them in football?
3. Our hoops teams are pretty equal in terms of talent right now. We are trying to get to post season for the first time in forever and they recently won the NIT so they had more success of late. We had to play catch up and we finally have; but still no respect.
We are doing everything right. We can't worry about anyone from PSU. Keep winning at the respect will continue to come from the media. As that happens, recruiting gets to the next level and off we go

That may be because Myles definitely did not really have his usual great game of late v. PSU.

I can't see the article but the RAC is a dump. No doubt about it. Walking those corridors and looking at it from the outside - how can you say otherwise.
Especially considering the beautiful new arena PSU has. But PSUs home environment stinks. So although our place looks like its stuck in the 70s, its still a better game environment than what PSU has.

The RAC is everything good about college basketball. Arenas like the BJC are over-produced and reek of the NBA.
David Jones isn't remotely a Penn State fan - he actually is an Ohio State grad so I'd say his "hole is fine." I wish people would stop assuming that because someone happens to cover a certain school, he's a fan of that team or represents the team in anyway. It's completely erroneous and frankly idiotic.
He is NOT a PSU fan. He covers PSU sports but he is NOT a PSU fan. Everyone get it through your thick skulls.
Do you think the guys who cover Rutgers from NJ Advance Media and Gannett are Rutgers fans? So why would you think Jones is a PSU fan?
