2020 Southern Scuffle Update Thread

[MS-RU]

Aguilar loses 4-1 to Logan Treaster of Navy. Zero offense from Aguilar in this one and it's an upset loss.

Aguilar will wrestle Sean Carter (App State) for 7th place.

[MS-RU]

Alvarez and Phillippi are tied 0-0 after 1. Both guys have been aggressive and Sammy has been close but no scoring yet. Sammy is on top to start the 2nd

[MS-RU]

Alvarez and Phillippi are tied 2-2 after 2, but Sammy has 1:10 of ride time and will go on bottom to start the 3rd.

[MS-RU]

Quick escape for Sammy and he leads 3-2 with 1:05 of ride time with 1 min left!

[MS-RU]

Sammy hit for stalling so it's tied 3-3 with 30 seconds to go

[MS-RU]

Alvarez gets the late takedown with 15 seconds left to win 6-3!

Huge win for Sammy over the #5 ranked wrestler in the country

[Clearscreen5]

Sammy Yes!!

[ScarletGrapfan]

Great Win Alvarez!!

[MS-RU]

Alvarez will face #8 ranked Cam Sykora from North Dakota State in the finals

[Jtg=04131996]

WOW. Suriano who.....(kidding, relax). Well done Sammy.

[wngarbarini]

Alvarez beats #4 in country Phillippi 6-3 to move into finals. Yes sir!

[Abro1975]

Signature win for The Bull !

[SCNJ]

Holy crap what a win

[RutgersAlum]

Signature win for The Bull !

I am super impressed with true freshman Alvarez - He is jumping levels as the season progresses.

[rpiseman]

Lucky he reneged on NC state last minute and came here. Kid is a stud

[BanjoSaysWoof]

WOW. Suriano who.....(kidding, relax). Well done Sammy.

Although if we do see Suriano again, what happens to the lineup?

[R U Crazy]

Suriano would get choice where he goes.
He should beat both Aguilar and Alvarez (RedShirt?)

[bigmatt718]

Sammy The Bull indeed!!! What a W!!!

Too late to Red shirt.

[MS-RU]

Too late to Red shirt.

I think he meant next season

[R U Crazy]

I think he meant next season

Correct. I assumed that Nick wouldn't return this year.

[Jersey Boys]

Sammy is going nowhere. Nick made a choice that was best for him. What is best for the wrestler and this program long term is for Sammy to stay firmly in place at 133.

Edit: Just saw people were referring to Nick returning next season. I still think Nick has moved on to the next stage of his life, but will be interesting to see what happens if he does return.

[R U Crazy]

Even with Sammy's win, he would be a #4 seed in the B10 (at best)
The top 3 - Gross, Desanto, Seabass

Isn't that something... #4 in the country, #4 in the conference lol

Yeah I am in agreement that I think Nick thinks his work is done here and won't return.

Gross won a classic vs DeSanto in the Midlands Championship. Avenged an earlier loss to him, much like Nick did.

He plays by the beat of his own drum for sure. Thank him for everything he accomplished here. I just think it's time we all starting looking ahead as a program.

[MS-RU]

MVB gets reversed to start the 3rd to lose 5-2 to Hunter Willits (Oregon State).

He will wrestle for 7th.

[KidDagger]

Sammy flipping Alvarez !!!

[MS-RU]

Donner getting bullied by #9 Jake Wentzel. Down 10-0 after 1 with almost 3 mins of ride time. No idea how he didn't get pinned. He was on his back the entire period, but he kept fighting.

[MS-RU]

Donner loses by TF 18-2 to #9 Jake Wentzel.

He will wrestle Ebed Jarrell (Drexel) for 7th

I rewatched his match. He is quick. I’m
Sure he was tired, but his effort level never seemed to wane (strategic stalling more than winded stalling IMO). Those are some good ingredients to be cooking with.

[rutpsychward]

Is the expectation that vulkah will wrestle this season. Same question for glasgow.

Very impressed with how Alvarez wrestled.. kid is only a true freshman too wow..! Def the mvp of our team so far... Philippi is no joke... besides Suriano he was only guy to beat Daton fix and Alvarez outwrestled him in all 3 phases ... we got a serious AA contender here folks

No and most likely no

[SCNJ]

Neither guy should wrestle. Both guys should take their redshirt and between them two, Kanniard and MVB, compete for the two spots at 157 and 165

[rutpsychward]

Thanks. What about wrestling unattached for either this season.

[Abro1975]

Vulakh is probably still nursing an injury reported earlier in the season. That's probably why we have not seen him in any opens. Not sure about Glasgow as he just got back in the room.I assume he has no conditioning or enough practice time in the room.

[Scarlet_Scourge]

Alvarez is living up to his nickname. Hopefully, he takes home the title tonight. One heck of a performance thus far.
