Is it still a thing to paint the Princeton cannon for big events? As an undergrad i remember that happening but i havent seen a thread or picture of it after the Schiano signing...

I expect all the chop activities are coming back. Remember when Greg purchased pizzas for the students that was standing in line for tickets.
What? Students are supposed to go to Princeton to paint their cannon red before the Ohio State game?
Maybe that made sense when Rutgers played Princeton and they were a rival. It makes no sense today.

My son was pledge master for his frat in circa 2012-2013. They did it!

And pretty much play Princeton in every other sport besides football. Basketball needs to get them back on the schedule ASAP.
Sure, we play them. But I don't think Rutgers thinks of Princeton as a rival in any sport. Do you think the Lacrosse team has the Princeton game circled on their schedule?
Probably, they are always a big lax rival and a close game.
Princeton has won 6 men's lax natl championships ... RU has zero. I think we still do circle Princeton on our lax schedule as a big rivalry game akin to the SHU in hoops.
Yes we still do it the night before homecoming or the wrestling match. If you go to the Princeton cannon today you can even see some of the rocks around it have red splatters on them from the last time it was painted

The Big Cannon has remained on the Princeton campus since 1840. It is the one that was in New Brunswick for the War of 1812. The Little Cannon is the one erroneously taken by Rutgers students in April of 1875 and has been the erroneous centerpiece of pr since. It has also not left the Princeton campus since its return in May of 1875.

They are also are biggest rival in LAX.
We need to bring back the MBB series somehow, however.
Harland W. “Tots” Meistrell made the Rutgers varsity football team as a freshman and started at halfback against the New York Aggies on October 25, 1919. In 1920, he brought back a sport not played at Rutgers since the late 1880s – lacrosse. Later that fall, he transferred to Princeton and reintroduced the sport there as well after a 30 year lapse. Since 1958, whenever Rutgers and Princeton meet they play for the “Meistrell Cup” that was established by the brother of “Tots.” They have played every year since 1926 except for 1944 and 1945. On April 9, 2013, Princeton defeated Rutgers for the 24th time in the last 25 years and now leads the all-time series 59-29-3. The winner keeps the trophy until the next meeting.

Rival or not, its still our frikken cannon that they buried face down & encased in cement. They should have considered that wag back when.
On the eve of the annual Rutgers-Princeton game in the fall of 1971 the cannon was apparently "stolen", again. A 4'x5' hole some 5 feet deep was found where the cannon sat. Campus police were baffled that the cannon had been taken given its extreme weight. After crime photos were taken, it appears that a hole had simply been dug next to cannon and the dirt from the hole used to bury it. Reports appeared in both the Rutgers Targum as well as the New Jersey and Princeton papers.
Isn't that because Princeton has won the NC in Lacrosse 6 times, and lost in the finals a couple: and we haven't even made it to 1 final yet?

Yea with muriatic acid. But you'll eat through the cannon at the same time.
Funny story, well maybe not too funny as I almost killed my whole crew.
We were cleaning a pool deck for a Miracote cool deck coating. Used Muriatic acid to etch it and get dirt out. But that doesn't kill mold. Went for the bleach, luckily the homeowner was a chemist. He comes out and says, "You know you're about to make Mustard Gas". I said exasperated, "What". He said, " Yea, you know the sh*t that killed millions in World War I, well your about to recreate that on a smaller scale". We now mechanically clean all concrete surfaces.

Yeah.... same problem if you get the creature in "Alien" to bleed on it.
