Mark Helfrich. Controversial I know, but it’ll be exciting to watch and it’ll be splashy.

Gleeson would be a major get. I’m hearing he’s on That college from Pennsylvania’s short list too.

Anyone familiar with how the Ole Miss offense fared under Rich Rod this year?

They took a step back from the previous year, mostly due to an emphasis on running.

Total Offense 29th (445.3 yards per game) down from 9th (510.5)
Rushing Offense 11th (251.3 yards per game) up from 72nd (164.1)
Passing Offense 100th (194.0 yards per game) down from 5th (346.4)
Team Passing Efficiency 98th (122.24 passer rating) down from 11th (154.76)
Scoring Offense 83rd (26.6 points per game) down from 30th (33.9)
3rd Down Conversion Pct 97th (36.8% conversion rate) up from 108th (35.3%)
4th Down Conversion Pct 66th (53.1% conversion rate) up from T-74th (50.0%)
Red Zone Offense 49th (86.8% scoring efficiency) down from T-23rd (88.9%)

with Gleeson I am guessing he will not be part of an announcement until after the Texas Bowl on 12/27. Otherwise he probably would have signed a deal with a school over the past week.

Steve Spurrier, Jr. from Washington St.
I won't say wish list but he's a name I've mentioned in the past....good lineage obviously and now part of the Leach tree. Leach position coaches often go on to be pretty good productive coordinators. I mentioned Graham Harell back when he was UNT OC but instead we hired McNulty and now USC/Texas are bidding for Harrell after the good work he did at UNT and now with a true freshman at USC converting from a pro style offense.

Bill Bedenbaugh the top notch OL coach at OU is another name I've mentioned as well. He was OL coach for Leach, Holgorsen and now Riley. He's never been an OC but many think he's more than capable and he himself has said he can do the job and wants to be HC someday if the opportunity is right. He knows that path is made easier as a coordinator first. Although lately Memphis/Arkansas made surprise OL to HC hires. He's architect of OU's famed GT run blocking scheme...he's the kind of "risk" I'd take for a first time play caller if you had to take that chance.

Eric Mele is another one I've mentioned for down the line...maybe not yet. He's been at WSU for 5 years first as STs coach and the past 2 years at RBs coach. He's from NJ so a little more time under Leach and I wouldn't mind giving a shot to him if we needed an OC. Seth Littrell and Art Briles were RB coaches under Leach and then went on to Houston as HC in Briles case and a productive OC in Littrell's case.

I read yesterday that they are trying to get Yurcich from Ohio State as their top choice. If that doesn't work, Gleeson could also be a candidate there. This is an instance where I hope Rutgers is able to make a very competitive offer on Gleeson so that he really considers accepting the Rutgers position.

I think the delay was more related to waiting to see what else comes open -- and Penn State did indeed come open in the past week. He is likely weighing his options.

At this point, given it's only 11 days away, he may also just wait for the bowl game to conclude, but there have been many asst. / coordinator moves already that were not held up by bowl games.

You might not think it on first blush but against PSU I think we can given their history even despite their superior resources compared to us.

When names like OSU/A&M got mentioned monetarily I didn't think we can compete if it's someone they really wanted. It would have to be another angle. With PSU I think we can because they don't seem to go as far out there for their assistants as other big name programs might...somewhat like Wisconsin but maybe a little more than them. They lost Shoop to Tenn and were paying him 850K and were paying Rahne 750K. You won't see other high paid top coordinators going to ODU...high mid major or low status P5 sure but ODU I don't think so.

So in that sense I wouldn't take it as a slam dunk in PSU's favor if we're in that 750K-1M range.

More likely with ESD than bowl game due to recruiting reasons.
