Read somewhere that he's 6'3, 200.

Duron Harmon/Saquon Hampton clone?

Didn’t watch the tape but Franklin doesn’t take kids as placeholders. He obviously wanted him at some point. Did he just have a crappy year? Was he hurt?

Looks good to me. Could also see him turning into a safety/cover linebacker hybrid.

Greg likes him; I trust his judgement.
That's probably a good way to look at it. But I watched the Hudl video and didn't come away impressed. Kid seems to have good hands and vision. Really needs to work on tackling though.

I'm wondering if the kid is still growing and we might be thinking of converting him to a tight end.

Watch his season highlights ^^. Lumbers around, lacks quickness, fluidity and twitch.

It depends on how we're going to use him. If he's an in-the-box safety or a big nickel, his 40 isn't nearly as important as his reaction time/instincts/ability to wrap-up.

Now if he's going to be single-high, point understood.

Schiano's track record with defensive backs is ok

That's what I thought. But the position kids play in HS isn't necessarily where RU will play them. The kid clearly has some talent to build upon.

Also, if he's still growing rapidly, we could be seeing a not-uncommon case of a kid who needs a couple years before his motor skills catch up with the changes in his body. I've seen that happen to a number of kids over the years. And once they get caught up, they're great.

Not sure how college coaches account for that.

I like the way he seems to take the right angle.

And he tracks the ball very well. When he sees the ball, there's no wasted motion in his footwork. You can tell because once the ball is released, if he thinks he's exactly where he needs to be, there are no wasted footsteps -- he just stands there and high points the ball.

Contrast that with Kiy Hester who took way too many false steps when breaking on the ball which basically nullified his natural range.

Not that I put a ton of stock in the recruiting rankings on the various sites, but according to them he would immediately be our highest rated recruit if he flipped here.

He seems to have a solid head on his shoulders. Perhaps he also impressed at camps, which typically outweighs video. I was not overly impressed with video but he has an impressive offer list. I think he is a good get and if he were to commit the top one so far in the class.
