not a finished product, but playing a lot better. Athleticism still Ahead of the basketball play...but the basketball play is really stepped up since the St Bonaventure disaster..

You can see the defensive rotations happening much better and cleaner...timing much better. The ball is moving more in the half court...still would like to play inside out more ...but it’s getting better

That’s a decent Umass team that we handled...and a very good (possible NCAA team) in Stephen G Austin

Time for mid terms exams in the next four games...looking for a split and overall very competitive ....

Tenacious defense combined with offensive spurts resulted in a decisive win .Baker was really impressive in the second half with 3 pointers and drives to the basket.Even with the decisive win the team missed far too many layups and close shots around the basket which in a close game could be the difference between winning and losing. This game was a very good prelude to the next four games against Pitt,Michigan State,Wisconsin and Seton Hall.Tough competition which means Rutgers must continue to improve.

Defense was very good.

Jacob Young drives you crazy on many offensive possessions, but man is he a factor defensively. Ditto Mathis.

This and I think I have come to grips with this fact. There will be those wtf possessions from him but if he can limit those and play the way he did on defense today without fouling his contributions will be tremendous. His lateral quickness today with defense was textbook.

Very happy with the effort today especially given our lackluster history in these Friday after Thanksgiving matinees. I really think the St. Bonaventure debacle provided a key teaching moment for this team.
Key test coming up -- Pitt.

Certainly appears to have the lateral quickness to handle him and powell isnt a huge height differential either. I think Pike will certainly throw multiple defenders at him from Young to Mathis to McConnell.

I don't give a crap how many points powell scores...metric to watch is points per attempt.

to your point i think it will be many players guarding powell, Mathis to start and then some Young

You can see the attention to detail on the little things still coming around...we tend to forget that we ARE still young on the court ...and that’s part of the maturitation process

A perfect example

Watching a guy like RHJ go through his free throw mechanics ...slowing down at the line and gathering himself before shooting it, getting his legs into it instead of using all arms in his shot on his first couple of shots

.That’s something that you can do 10000 in practice, but until you are winded in a game, and do it, you don’t know how to mentally slow yourself down to focus and Nail it

There was about 8-10 other little things like that I saw today from other players ...during the course of the game, that I have not seen from guys...signs they are learning and growing. It’s a maturation process that it is starting to take hold, that isnt necessarily a linear curve, and sometime it comes together ...

Very optimistic for the remainder term , and optimistic in the immiedate term

A split in the next four ...while competing very well in the two we don’t take...would forebode REALLY well for the rest of the season ...as a major shot of reinforcement confidence in this team’s growth for the season

We shall see ....

Everyone is starting to understand their roles and for the most part playing unselfishly.

And respect the 2 alphas: Geo and Harper.........
