I've been following along with the stats, why have we gone away from Harper and McConnell?

RU up 70-52 with 3:57 left and Harper going to the line for 2 shots after a timeout on the floor.

Good all around game , especially on d. Sloppy on a few missed layups but I really like how we broke their press and made them pay with buckets, not just bring content

Most complete win by this team heading into a tough stretch. Congrats guys. Really well played. We were favored by 8 and won by 25. Nicely done!

Wasn’t able to see the game but followed this thread and the stats. Sounds like we missed a lot of bunnies but still shot FGs at 53%. Pretty damn good.

Best game of the year

I would probably put the win over NJIT above this one, although you're probably saying that UMass was better competition. I just can't get the 3-13 from three-point range, and the tons of missed bunnies, out of my mind with this win.

UMass made a HUGE mistake in sticking with the full court press. We were beating it 9 out of 10 times and then making them pay and getting EASY buckets in transition.

Up and down game. We were able to break their press leading to a lot of layup attempts that kept the FG % up. But a very good game all around.

We win by 20+ to a now 5-3 UMass team and geez people complain too much here. The players are human not robots or a video game. They miss shots, they turn the ball, they miss layups, etc. They are 6-1, they have a good shot at winning @Pitt. MSU is even a winnable game, given our history against them last 2 years. Enjoy the team stop complaining about every little thing, stop worrying, we have a good team, and we won't get blown out bad anymore.

kcg88, you remind me of the miserable RUJMM78 who sat in the next section to me for years. I was watching the game on BIG10+ so I didn't see this thread until after the game and wanted to see the early panic from the regular gloom and doom crowd and you guys didn't disappoint:Sad:. Relax and enjoy the games!

Rutgers will win games because of their defense. We may not have the size insider like last year, but the pressure defense by everyone makes up for it. Also, I can see this team getting to the line a lot this year because we are driving to the basketball more than relying on outside shooting. I hope we can hit our free-throws.

It's a good margin but this is why I hate the garbage schedule. The stuff that works against UMass doesn't work against Big Ten teams.

Guess I am just one of those guys that sees the glass half full so I can't ever understand why people always see it the other way. If sports, especially Rutgers sports were going to make me miserable I think I would take up knitting.:Laughing

I use to think that way, but there's more parity with guys jumping ship early for the pros. Plus, guys train all year, so the gap between the haves and have nots is not as wide as it once was.

Cali, I don't agree with you on Schiano or Hobbs but you are right Coach Pike is definitely the real deal

And Pike was worried about our D! And the season is still young! Can’t wait til they really get it cranked!

Again, one possession in a 25 point win.

I commented a few posts above that one about how UMass was getting alot of offensive rebounds. So it was not just one possession, but a concern pretty much the entire 2nd half.

My unstated (in this thread anyway - I actually have said it in many past threads) premise is that our interior defense and defensive rebounding would be a season long concern without Eugene. So when I noticed our defensive rebounding struggling against a UMass team that was crashing the boards, I pointed it out.

Nothing wrong with that, even in a 25-point win against a fairly weak opponent.

The missing of layups and failure to use the glass consistently is a definite flaw and the lack of help rebounding on the defensive end to help Myles is frustrating and will hurt us against bigger teams and those crashing the boards like, Michigan State, Illinois. The guards are big enough and have to rebound . So you are pointing out 2 of the things that have to be watched going forward .
On the other hand, the tone of your post is negative on a day our defense was outstanding and Myles and Harper were hardly utilized and we won by 25 and we’re comfortably ahead by double digits for the last 27 minutes . We also for the first time in forever made a team pay for pressing us. Except for a few careless turnovers that was a clinic with an agressive attack to the hole or assists. This was a very good win and your last line about Umass being a “fairly weak opponent is ********. They are are very good team and will cause problems. They only lost to Virginia by 12 and although they lost to St John’s by 15 , they were winning for 30 minutes. So that is why people are getting on your case. In total, you bring up areas of concern but today was not to be overly critical. If we would have hit our layups and few more 3’s we would have won by 40 and would have looked perfect. We are not a perfect team but we are really getting better over the last 3 games.
