He eased dropped and wasn't supposed to publish what he heard, and the quote was used out of context. The entire article is all over the place. Rutgers fans will celebrate baby steps forward. So what. And Jackson rather be at Rutgers, OSU is not home.

Take a look at Sports Illustrated this week. About The First Team to Play a College game to now the
worst. Several pages of ripping RU every way they could.

There are several troubling parts of that article (Disrepair of the stadium, lowest fundraising in the BiG) but the one that raises the eyebrow the most is that Hobbs asked OSU’s Athletic Director Gene Smith about whether it had any evidence that Schiano knew about Jerry Sandusky AND THAT THEY HAD THAT CONVERSATION IN AUGUST.

I'm not sure if you're saying this is a bad thing or not, but it isn't. People have been harping on Hobbs for not doing anything sooner but if he was asking in August then he has in fact been doing his due diligence to make sure Rutgers wouldn't get bashed in the media for a hire.

Interesting choice of words by the OSU AD: “This is an environment where it can be done,” he said. “It’s just finding the right leader.”

I noticed he didn't just say coach. He said "leader". This rebuild will be about so much more than what happens on the field. In fact, the on-field results will only happen after all the off-the-field stuff gets fixed... the type of stuff some people criticize GS for micromanaging. He's the type of leader this program has sorely lacked the past 7 years.

Let them get it all out of their systems now. Just makes it sweeter once we get a competent leader in here... one that'll have people taking us seriously again.

This guy Michael Farber starts the article like this. Late in the second act of the 1947 Broadway Musical High Button Shoes, the masterly Phil Silvers, playing a con man Sings Nobody Ever died for dear old Rutgers/they simply want to live.
Then in the second paragraph says " After a 52-0 loss to Michigan and Ash losses his job because Arthur Sikowski and
Blackswear had no plans to die for dear old Rutgers.
One more, he later states the punter, Adam Korsak, may be a the best punter in the country, and in the topsy turvey world of Rutgers football the All American hopeful is Australian. Of course.
I ask why would anyone write such a hateful article? and believe me he went on and on.

That is a very interesting tidbit which would counter the narrative that Hobbs didn’t want Schiano for the job.

The possibility of a coaching change didn't exist in August?

I wonder what context that was even said. That's BS it was used in this piece of "journalism". Would like to hear from the person who actually said it. Also F*** the NYTimes. What is their problem?

Or not. It could mean Hobbs was digging for dirt to ensure Gary would not be considered. Just depends on how you interpret. Will never know.

Anti-Hobbs people whose theory was that Hobbs would never hire Schiano due to his big ego and the reason he had such a big ego was because he would never hire Schiano so he needed to be fires so that a new Ad would be hired who would then hire Schiano. Follow that? That is it, that is why they hated him. So what happens when Schiano gets announced? Then it turns out that he was senders feeders this whole time? Then what? Will they eat crow or say that Hobbs was replaced by a reptile alien?

Hobbs is in a bad spot, if he hires
Anyone but GS, and that person fails,
Hobbs gets the blame, if he hires GS & he fails, this board will never accept
That GS is to blame never.

Nope! I think Hobbs was trying to get something to keep Schiano out!

This is a political war!!!

Goodness. You can put the blame on my reading comprehension (or lack thereof), but dude...that was just plain unreadable.

You should contact RU and suggest they use that in their solicitations for donations.
if you read the articles about the big giver Garutti and his comments about fans needing to "step up" even more when things go wrong you can appreciate what those that support RU in a major way believe

I didn't think reporters were allowed to use quotes off the record. The fact he's not attributing it to a specific person makes it even shakier. Unfortunate.

Of course they are. Anonymous sources are used all the time. Haven't you ever read a newspaper or listened to a news broadcast?

AKA this a cheap fanbase. We are so small time. This doesn't happen at any other B1G, SEC or B12 team.

I’ve often wondered if it’s because of where we live that donations are so low. One of the most expensive states to live in along with the highest taxes. It could also be that it’s just the way NJ is. No real love for the state school like other areas and for the most part we have been small time in all sports

Curious - what is "Beijing Times" supposed to mean?

You need to spend some more time with the far right wingers on our CE Board or on social media in general, who think the Times is filled with communists and anyone (especially democrats) who reads that "liberal rag" is a pinko commie. Not sure they really believe that, as the Times is still the best paper in the USA (despite some stumbles, which all organizations have), but they certainly like to say those things.

I would peg Hobbs more as a Grey than a reptilian.

While this is true- in most cases, reporters do ask permission to use something as an anonymous source rather than just run with it. As they know they most likely won't get any more quotes, anonymous or not from someone they burn...

It is a few things in my opinion. Yes, cost of living in NJ hurts all charities and donations. We also have the problem that there really is no "home state love" in NJ - and that goes for many Alumni as well. And, we tend to be so damn busy all the time that it is very difficult to slow our heads down enough to even care.
