One of the highlights was Brian Leonard discussing his recruitment. As we all know Syracuse was recruiting him hard. When he told the cuse coaches he was committing to RU one of the coaches said to Brian that he will never be on a team that beats Syracuse. He finished up by saying "we went 4-0 against them". Crowd loved it.

Wasn't BL on the 2004 team that lost to Syracuse?

No one knows if season ticket holders, RFund donors or just regular donors were supposed to get it.

I met some great people at the cocktail hour. They were all trying to figure out how the invite list was generated.

@KingHigh I think most of us would have preferred a game this week.

In case there was any doubt from my OP, I personally walked away from last night’s event feeling better about the University, as well as Pat Hobbs leading the program. I think that’s exactly why Development hosts donor nights like these. Mission accomplished.

Chris Ash made me reconsider my long term support for this team, which is something I never thought possible. It’s only natural that bled into my view of Hobbs. Either way, I’m fully back on the Hobbs (& Schiano) bus after last night. Time to start saving for that bowl trip.

Maybe you should stop criticizing die-hard fans and loyals sons and daughters. This is not professional sports. Some of us choose to show up and cheer for our student athletes through thick and thin. Those people are not Pollyannas. But whatever makes you field good about your stance, go with it.

i believe that is the exact definition of a Pollyanna. I don’t consider it a pejorative, so don’t be defensive about it.

Who cares about a game, I just wanted two things, a marker at the true birthplace, which we got, and announcement of a new HC (coming soon).

Also a redshirt on the 2002 team that lost to Cuse as well. 3 out of 4 on the teams where he played and was on the field for is pretty good though.

No defensiveness at all.
Pollyanna: "a person characterized by irrepressible optimism and a tendency to find good in everything"

That's not what the fans who continue to go to games seem to be. Those who sit in our section are certainly not irrepressibly optimistic about this season or finding good in everything. I think however, speaking for myself, we found good in firing of Ash. We we go to support the teams and the players.

I'll stick with Loyal sons and daughters: "faithful to a cause, ideal, custom, institution, or product."

I got there at 5:50 PM and I had a mobile ticket to the event. The bouncers and person in charge didn't know what it was and finally they just said OK and let me in. That may explain why eventually they just stopped checking for tickets. There was no consistency to what they should be checking.

The food, drinks and company during the cocktail hour was great. But nobody that I spoke with had any inside information on the Schiano situation.

Before the taping of the show started, we were asked to turn off our phones. So really disappointing how many phones were going off during the show. The people on camera did a good job of being unfazed but I found it to be very distracting.

Dave Revsine did a great job as the mediator. You can tell he's done stuff like this 1000 times.

As has been mentioned here, I was super impressed with Mike Teel. Very polished and charismatic.

I got to chat up Brian Leonard for a few minutes afterward. After all these years, I still have a major man crush so that really put an exclamation point on the evening.

Mrs. Screw - I saw you but our paths didn't cross. Sorry we didn't get a chance to say hi.

Are you a podiatrist? That's a great diagnosis.
I had a similar thought that perhaps he could not wear dress shoes due to a foot issue.

Couldn’t the Prof at least wear one shoe, given that is the 150th and he’s a keynote speaker? Sandals are not acceptable at business casual functions.

Doesn't sound like he was a keynote, rather a panel speaker substitution for Delany.

I'm not a Schiano shill/cultist, but given his penchant for being involved in tertiary program details and micromanaging his first time around (often necessary, because Rutgers), I can only imagine how things would have been planned and orchestrated for the 150th if he was head coach during this season.

He's be so far out of his lane and pissing a lot of people off including those at BTN but you can bet he would have put a stamp on whatever the festivities were. Even if he should have been focusing on being the head coach, gameplanning for next opponent, etc. A potential WTF loss in the next game notwithstanding, he would have been running around making sure cocktail napkins were folded perfectly straight or some ****, and chewing someone out if not.

I guess we'll know soon enough if that's what 2.0 will be like or not. Hopefully for his health and peace of mind he can figure out a necessary balance.

Business, not business casual, business.
which is why seeing Hobbs in khakis and a blazer was a bit shocking.

Sometimes to emphasize, it's more specifically referred to as business formal. It wasn't a gala type event so obviously it wasn't black-tie formal.

Couldn’t give 2 ***** that he wasn’t wearing a suit. Literally and figuratively.

it's not that I cared so much...it was just the look on the stage. Revsine and Alvaraz were in suits and dress shoes and Hobbs looked like a professor who just walked away from giving a lecture in a classroom.

Tom was not available.

Source, have you been over to Alexander Library yet to check out the collection they have on display for the 150th anniversary celebration? Just curious what your thoughts are, if you've seen it, given your robust knowledge of Rutgers football history.

That's a great article. This made me sigh:

"With a history degree and a perfect score on his LSAT, Revsine applied to law and business schools. While spending a year in Dublin on a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship, he realized he had no interest in studying law. Instead, he spent a year working for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York as a financial analyst. He hated that even more."

Kudos to him for following his dream. Glad it worked out for him. Back to toiling away at some esoteric issue for me.

Hey at least he wore socks. Can you imagine what that guy's feet might look like? Ewwwwww.

Fair enough. My only thought is that it was a long day’s worth of events - and everything else - so the guy just wanted to be comfortable. Again, in the grand scheme, s big “meh.”

I think it's cool. But that's because many of the items are mine! It's only about a 15 minute stop-in-and-look because the room is not big but everything is encased in glass. But they did a very nice job for the space they do have. It really doesn't encompass Rutgers Football 1869-present because there is so much more that could be displayed, but can't be displayed because of space.

But if you want to "extend" the tour and you are there during open hours, step right into Special Collections just feet away and ask the desk for codified books of Rutgers football programs starting in the 1930s. They also have the actual individual programs starting around the late 1920s. But the codified books of the programs they put together in the 30s, 40s and 50s are more efficient to thumb through.

Also behind the front desk when you enter the Alexander Library is another small room with the Paul Robeson exhibit -- also worth a look-see.

P.S. - Look for two old wool caps with bands of color on one of the shelves. Dr. William Chamberlain, captain of the 1882 Rutgers football team, collected the football skull caps from all the captains of the opponents that season. Upon Dr. Chamberlain's 50th graduation anniversary in 1932, he donated the caps back to Rutgers. Those are just two of them. The one you won't see is the one with a blue and white color. It is the cap of the captain of the Yale team in 1882 -- none other than the Father of American Football - Walter Camp.

Bravo....thanks for lending your collectibles for display to share with the greater Rutgers community.

My pleasure. Many of the other items are from the late alumni Jim Handford. While Rutgers has had cannon firings since 1931, Mr. Handford played a role in the one you hear go off at Rutgers games today..............

In 2009, Rutgers Stadium was enclosed and gained more seats but lost a traditional spot on a nearby hill for its cannon firings. The story of the current cannon was in the November 14, 1971 Rutgers-Holy Cross program, “It started as a wild dream, over two years ago, when Ted Stier, ’49, with a little help from his son, Rick, now a member of the Class of ’73, suggested to the 20th Reunion Committee that a revolutionary muzzle-loading cannon be the class gift and presented at the football centennial game in 1969. A formal order for a full size cannon was placed in May of 1969 with the Lentz Heavy Carriage Company of Cleveland, Ohio, an outfit that specialized in the building and restoration of cannons for state and federal agencies, historical societies and other groups interested in ancient artillery. After two frustrating seasons, 1949 class correspondent Jim Handford was assigned the task to ‘get the gun in’71.” He delivered, and on the morning of the Columbia game (October 23, 1971), the class of ‘49’s reunion gift rolled into Rutgers Stadium… Stier describes the cannon… as ‘an authentic ¾ scale model of a revolutionary war artillery piece. The barrel bears the crest of George II in relief, and is of a design used by Muller of England, and published in his Treatise of 1759. It is slightly over nine feet long from the end of the carriage to the tip of the barrel, and is nearly five feet from wheel hub to wheel hub.” In 2010, a new spot was designated for the cannon along the sidelines on the field. The Second Regiment, Middlesex County Militia oversees its firing. Bill Krusinski was the Rutgers employee who initially reached out to the group.

I've said this previously. It was a BTN production and Alvarez has a long history with the Big10 so they asked him to be on the panel
Sorry to bother you. I actually didn't and don't see that comment.. Stupid me.
