My hometown team in action tonight v GA Southern. Appy is a 14-point favorite.

This should be fun, per weather conditions.

Downtown Boone is 3333-feet in elevation. West wind now blowing 15-25 MPH. Gusts to 60 MPH. Temp at kickoff 43, dropping to 32 by 4thQ. Chance of precip between 25-35%.

Up top, here above town, deduct 7 degrees, and add snow showers. We'll watch at home.

Go Mountaineers!

Pinehurst, why has App State had good football for years and Western Carolina is usually terrible?

$$$. App's alumni base wants a competitive program. They contribute needed monies and works the UNC system to optimize its athletics budget. And the school invests those program monies wisely in staff and facilities.

Conversely, I suspect the Catamounts don't prioritize its FB program.

Edit: Football budget (2017-18) at App State was $37 million; WCU was just shy of $15 million.

That is a significant amount for a school with no TV money—Where are they getting their fans from on an average Saturday—Greensboro ? Asheville? Charlotte ?

Still 70 degrees in the city. Seeing snowflakes and people bundled up at that game seems like it’s happening in another world.

Nice rivalry game. Tough loss, yes. But App State is still nicely positioned to play for/win the Sun Belt Championship. Next up, at South Carolina on Nov 9, 7 pm, ESPN2. Would be sweet to beat both UNC and USC in the same season.

The Fightin’ Cole Swindells won again. Wish Springsteen or Bon Jovi would support Rutgers like he does for Georgia Southern. I think he has a GS hat surgically sewn to his head.

I have been to Boone,Thanksgiving time ,a few years ago. Cold. Somewhat barren. Didn't realize the elevation.Like the place. Was visiting Family in Kernersville and took a ride on the Friday after Turkey day.Love the Carolina mountains.

This upper corner of NC, bordering TN and VA, was known as "The Lost Province." Still kind of resonates. Today it identifies itself as "The High Country"--not so much referring to regional herbalists, if you know what I mean. But Appy kids do like their herb. And Pabst BR.
