What a freakin' joke. The guests are the sportscaster from Illinois, the commissioner of the conference we've been in for 4 of the 150 year history of the program and the athletic director of Wisconsin.

Typical Rutgers

Can you provide the e-mail address from where the e-mail came from? I went as far as putting every single RU athletics e-mail address I am aware of on a safe list, but maybe this came from another address.
Updates@ rutgersathletics.fan-one.com

weird address

edit: I added a space, because it kept auto-formatting to a bad link.

2nd edit: just a heads up... I’ve received 136 email blasts from that address in the last year.

Ok so a few comments.

I've been a football season ticket holder for over 25 years and I have yet to receive he email - am I not a "Friend of Rutgers Athletics"? Luckily someone else forwarded it me so I was able to register.

The ringing of the Old Queens bell and the unveiling of a plaque are the minimum that should be done. The fact that we don't have a marker for the first college football game is criminal.

What they should have done is pull up the parking lot by the barn and create a small park dedicated to the first college football game with a commemorative statue in the middle. Something with historical markers describing the first football game, first tailgate etc. Something that visitors from other Big Ten schools could visit. Now that would be impressive on TV. How is the unveiling of a plaque with a parking lot behind it going to show on TV?

With the amount of time they had they could have done so much more. How about a parade down College Ave with all the student and alumni groups. Hell invite delegations from Princeton and the other Big 10 schools to participate

How about a concert at the stadium? Get some NJ talent to perform.

And what about a game on the weekend. I know Princeton said no, but its criminal that we aren't playing anyone on that weekend. I don't care if we would have gotten killed, its about celebrating the anniversary.

Although I am exited to see the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center and this event gives me a great way to see it - I am wondering what this Celebration at the Birthplace will be like.

Rutgers missed yet another huge opportunity to have some great press. They could have done so much better.

Agree. Season long promotion to vote for all time Rutgers team or players of each decade? Could’ve had the name put on the new Victory statute. We have tons of students. We could have commissioned someone to prepare a special documentary on the history of the game at Rutgers with a special showing at halftime of a night game, the mall of the new honors college, etc.

One other thing. We have to get someone in the crowd to either make this a backdrop when they drop the curtain or bring a mini projector to project this as the backdrop:
I was wondering what the hell you changed your avatar to. FeaR the gap. Good one

Now if it turns out to be a cash bar...

Prepare to be disappointed Lou....a free event open to the general public (i.e. not invite-only), I'd be quite surprised if Rutgers had an open bar at the cocktail hour. Pack a flask of your favorite hard stuff and enjoy!

Don't feel bad. My name is supposedly on a plaque in the Barnabas Performance Center. They did not send me an invite to the grand opening.

I did not receive an invite to the 50 yard line dinner for two years in a row. I had to keep asking for my invite, which never came, but I was put on the guest list.

Did not receive this e-mail either for the celebration. And I am not going to chase Athletics down for an invite.

I have tried contacting people to see why I do not get e-mails. Nobody responds. Was planning on making the next level of donations. But if they don't respond, why bother?

Rutgers gonna Rutgers.

I thought you were sumbody

I am not sure what people wanted. They tried to get a game with Princeton and they refused to play us (all things considered, that worked out well since we would had lost to them this year). To be 100% honest considering how bad this team is this season, less is more my friends. Less is more.

At least we finally are getting a long overdue Plaque at the actual birthplace.
Not true . My friend who works for r.u. said Rutgers is to blame for the game against Princeton not taking place. But yes you are right Princeton would win easily against r.u. !

Alvarez should be booed off the stage. Along with Barchi and Hobbs.

Same as others have posted:
>[email protected]-one.com<
received at 10:45am

Btw, received the field hockey email at 6:02pm that you said you got. Also from the same email address.
Yup, got that one at 6:00 p.m. and got the Gameday guide for the football game from the same e-mail address at 7:00 p.m.

Wondering if my selections could be hanging things up. Perhaps their e-mail for the Celebration is categorized as something else? But how would that explain not getting an e-mail for the Barnabas Performance Center Opening? Funny how we are trying to figure this out, and multiple e-mails to RU Athletics provides zero response:

And clearly that's why no one is getting invited to this gig. They'll invite the big donors and a few octogenarians. Problem solved. No booing.

Well, I've searched high and low and I have no invitation. I've looked on the department's official website and nothing.

Just remember those of you who earlier this year said, 'have faith, be patient and let Hobbs announce the festivities." This is what they have planned for this momentous occasion. And then they exclude a majority of the fanbase? And then you wonder why so many of us have no faith in Hobbs and this school to right this ship.

The way Rutgers has handled this is so pathetic that you have to wonder if anybody in the athletic administration has ever taken a marketing or PR course.
There were no marketing experts in the vaunted business school who could have offered some guidance? Is this the best they could do?

Rutgers gonna Rutgers. If it was not for my development contact, I would be in the dark.

And LOL. Just got this, but no e-mail on the celebration.

I got that, too.

I think those kind of emails are great.
Give you an option to make a small impulse donation to celebrate a victory.

It all adds up.

Guys, please, relax, the 150th celebration is just a trial run for the 200th. They will have fifty years to learn from the mistakes they made this time around. I am sure they will get it right in 2069. Have a little faith.

Ya got it all wrong. Who the heck cares about the 200th? Rutgers officials are preparing for the half millennium. Now that’ll be a big deal. Think they’ll manage not to eff it up with 350 years to plan?
